Seed Atom

As long as the force of alienation, Nahash, prevails in the stream of consciousness, its passage from life to life, from incarnation to incarnation, is not accompanied by full delocalization, is not accompanied by a “return” to its original free and luminous state, but is held in the cycle of gilgul by a special anchor which in Western Hermeticism is called the “seed atom.” This “atom,” also known to the ancient Egyptians as “Akh,” and to Buddhists as the “Indestructible Drop” (“bindu”), represents, in fact, a “divine spark,” “enslaved” in the material world, that the Gnostics spoke of.

As we have already mentioned, akh is “potential” perfection which, in the chain of incarnations, exists in a “divided,” distorted form; it is that “Light of Individuality” (the Kabbalistic “Yechidah”) that must be found and realized.

As the highest level of existence of each stream of awareness, yechidah also creates separateness, is the highest individual logos, and, in its “imprisoned” state, acts as the “glue” binding the separate incarnations of the stream of awareness and providing the karmic connection between them.

The Maps of the Afterlife agree that if the mind “returns” to this center, identifies with its light, then it attains its “unborn” original and ideal nature, becomes perfect or enlightened. However, as long as such identification is not found, the mind exists “around” its Black Sun, it revolves in the gilgul cycle, reaping the fruits of its actions.

These Maps are also unanimous that akh is associated with the heart center; hence, for example, the importance the Egyptians attached to the heart (eb) as the “shell” of akh.

In the Interval, when the mind dissolves its vehicles one by one, going ever deeper into itself, it eventually runs up against its own “boundary reality” and is faced with a choice: to “enter” it and lose itself, dissolving into the Clear Light, or to preserve individuality, thus preserving the necessity of manifested existence. As long as the mind is “obscured,” as long as its perception of itself is distorted, and it retains shadowed, unawakened, unrealized aspects, it perceives Yechidah as Nahash, individuality as separateness, and therefore is held captive by ego and Lucifer.

Thus, in the stream of incarnations, akh is an unattainable “guiding star,” a mere light of potential perfection glimmering through the clouds of obscuration.

The light of Keter (more precisely, the Aeon Bithios that generates it), which must manifest as the Mind of Chokhmah and the Wisdom of Da’at, in an obscured mind (or in the fallen worlds) manifests as the Demon of Separateness and the Blind God, as egoism and ignorance. Accordingly, the “seed atom” is simultaneously the path to Perfection and an anchor in existence, a source of freedom and enslavement, depending on how the mind identifies it.

By integrating Life and Awareness, the singular and the universal, the actual and the potential, the mind can discover within itself that indestructible foundation which is its true nature, that forms its fabric and at the same time is lost, unrecognized, and forgotten. And, as we already said, one can approach this foundation by relying on either pole of duality — either by exhausting being, or by abandoning it — since any pole, brought to its absolute manifestation, inevitably includes the opposite pole as well; and the Ouroboros, seizing its tail, simultaneously devours and gives birth to itself.

  1. What is, within the framework of the Myth we are considering, the Black Sun, esteemed Enmerkar?

    – Is light faster than ‘ours’?

    – Is it a scorching light from another, unknown source? (as if all known sources are thoroughly studied)?

    – A certain state of individual consciousness before its super-duper transition into some Nowhere? (By the way, it’s interesting that the word ‘nowhere’ – נקודה – in Hebrew means ‘point’ and is pronounced the same as in Russian: никуд а́).

    – An alchemical – metaphorically speaking – stage of burning away what has already lived its life and no longer holds value? Transition?

    – A Source of Light from a transcendent n-dimensional space?

    – The notorious ‘black hole’, the all-consuming Dragon, having absorbed all in the ‘observable’ Universe, becomes the New Center of New, let’s say, Grandeur? Not just Big, but Mega Big Bang?

    – The Limit of Dreams?

  2. Hello, Enmerkar! I will stand up for Lucifer, as I ‘know’ him. Lucifer is the power that allows a person to distinguish themselves from many collective matrices with which they have been identified since birth, and this is a necessary condition for a person to create a vessel of personality wherein the Monad can manifest its unique traits. The gift of Lucifer to humanity is the gift of individual consciousness. He is the flash of the original fire in the soul that allows a person to walk their own path, separate from everyone else; it is the power that allows one to remain true to the voice of their heart even when everyone around is against it—even if the rest of the world is against it. This is exactly what Lucifer’s rebellion consists of. It is the force without which no magician could ever separate themselves from the crowd and dare to walk their own path. On the contrary, the state of original merging and unity, what Carl Jung called mystical participation (participation mystique), is the binding force that serves homeostasis and inertia of any system. The mythological embodiment of this power is Ialdabaoth—as a suppressive force directed at maintaining inertia, preventing any changes. A force directed at averaging and standardizing all elements of the system, recognizing their right to individuality only and only within the limits of the standards it allows and approves, which do not threaten the general homeostasis. Therefore, equating Lucifer and Ialdabaoth is fundamentally incorrect—they are opposing forces, standing against each other. And now, in a changing and at the same time unwilling to change world, their struggle is manifested most vividly.

    • Hello. As is usually the case, the evaluation of the nature of demonic power does not coincide with the evaluation of its influence on consciousness. I would not want to provoke a discussion here (especially since such disputes are always fruitless), so I will only say that 1) I do not agree with the assessment of the significance of the self-separation power, unbalanced by the feeling of unity, for consciousness; 2) I do not equate Lucifer and Ialdabaoth in any way; on the contrary, I have repeatedly emphasized the distinction between these powers.

      • It follows that the force balancing the influence of ‘separateness’ in consciousness is the force of Love, as a power of connection but not of binding. Hence, goddesses of Love may be paired with Lucifer’s powers, not opposing but harmonizing his influence on consciousness, as a result of which there occurs a merging with unity without the dissolution of individuality in this unity. And this is nothing more than an exit into the pleroma or a sacred marriage in alchemy.
