Keys and Calls

We have already discussed repeatedly incantations, as the most important part of magical practice, in fact, perform several functions:
- they outline and single out the “field” of the Ritual, that is, the controllable part of the universe that is subject to influence;
- they call the energy into it necessary for creation or transformation;
- they call (or banish) the agents that participate in this transformation;
- they direct the operator’s attention and will;
- they prepare the operator to interact with the results of the operation.

In other words, an incantation is a universal tool through which both divine and magical creation take place. Just as in the East mantrayana is the most important tool for the development of consciousness and the world, incantations in the West are the core of all Magic.
Being the most “dense,” accessible to interaction section of the Logos, an incantation is not just an arbitrary verbal formula; it is the very form in which divine creative energy is present in the manifest world, and therefore both the creation and the reading of incantations are genuine sacred acts.

One can say that in the form of an incantation it is possible to express the energy of any being, process, or space, thereby enabling interaction (and operation) with it. The world is not only “created by the Word”; it is sustained by words, altered by words, and can be destroyed by words.
Probably, one of the most important results of the ritual work of J. Dee and E. Kelley was the attainment of the “Enochian Calls” — a system of verbal keys that open possibilities for interaction with various beings and spaces of the In-Between, which underpins the effectiveness of this area of “grey” Magic — astonishing to many even to this day.

The tradition of writing national anthems derives from the galdr art of manipulating energies through words, and a properly composed anthem is, of course, a powerful tool for attracting resources to a state’s sphere.
Moreover, many iconic or “cult” songs that stir the minds of entire peoples for many decades also have all the features of incantations — energy-dense verbal structures. One can say that practically any being or process has its “own song” — such an expression of its energies that makes it possible to tune into it, interact with it, and possibly control it.

We said that practically any sigil — a graphic depiction of a being’s vortex or process — can be read as a “motto” or a “sisma,” the corresponding verbal expression of its nature, which also acts as one of the most important keys for working with this vortex.
Since, in this way, an incantation acts as the “logostic body” of a process or object, its creation must meet a number of requirements for both content and form.

First, it must contain the necessary Names, i.e., activate the level of logoi, i.e., address semantic layers of reality.
Second, it must correctly name the “external” structures of vortices and vectors — their symbols and attributes.
Third, it must invoke the entities governing the given process or object — gods, archangels, etc., serving as an “aspect of pravi.”
Fourth, it must clearly describe the sources of energy and the paths by which it enters the system — the aspect of resource.
Finally, fifth, it must, in form, harmonize with the expressed process and be expressed in the language that this process “understands,” that is, be internally consonant with it.
An incantation created in this way, regardless of its size and artistic value, will be a powerful transformational tool, directing both the operator’s mind toward development and help transform the world to better match hierarchies of meaning, bringing greater harmony and order.
