Malefic Spirits

Since ancient times, people have attributed wars, natural disasters, diseases, and other misfortunes to the activity of certain unfriendly beings — spirits, demons, and the like. Today, such a view is commonly regarded as archaic, attributed solely to misunderstanding and a primitive worldview. However, the fact that therapeutic methods developed on the basis of such a picture of the world were successful in the past and retain significant effectiveness today does not allow us to simply discard it. Let’s examine what Traditional Magic says about the causes of “physical” pathological changes in the individual and society.
We have already discussed that, from the standpoint of the Myth we are describing, the mind is seen as a space in which relatively stable states can be distinguished — matrices. At the same time, the most stable and dominant matrix in a given stream of consciousness is defined as a “being,” shaping the type and level of current awareness.

Depending on which matrix is active in the mind, a being can display different properties in relation to the world around it, acting as a creative or destructive agent.
However, a matrix in itself is not something fixed or independently existing; it is simply a state of mind, and therefore, in any stream, many matrices of varying strength, scale, and constructiveness can manifest.

In other words, in any being there may be divine and demonic matrices, as well as many other states of mind.
At the same time, like any energy modification, matrices can be induced, are contagious — that is, they tend to spread through collectives. That is, if some energetic matrix is strongly active in one person, the same state of mind tends to appear in their close surroundings, which is how various egregoric attunements, collective madness, or sectarian moods are explained.

Among the entire set of matrices inclined to actualize in human streams of mind, constructive groups stand out — those that gave rise to the notion of guardian gods — protectors — and groups of destructive matrices, described as demons and malicious spirits. Let us recall that such a view does not deny the existence of living gods or demons that act as the ‘bearers’ of those matrices.
Within each set of stable matrices, the most frequent or active ones are highlighted. It is well known that all peoples agree that behind many negative events lies a limited number of hostile beings: 9 archdemons of Goetia, 8 classes of malicious spirits of Buddhism, 7 deadly sins of Catholicism describe such “sets.”

When, for example, the matrix of the “spirit-mamo” is activated in the minds of many people, they become prone to war and conflict. The same applies to diseases or natural disasters — in many cases they can be correlated with the activation in the mind of certain destructive matrices.
It is clear that material problems must first be addressed by material means, and therefore each of the destructive manifestations of the physical plane, of course, requires active measures using available scientific advances. However, this does not mean that methods for working with the mind should be dismissed. On the contrary, countering destructive matrices, neutralizing or correcting them may produce astonishingly effective results. For example, neutralizing the negative manifestations of the matrices of those same malicious mamo can serve the cause of peace no less effectively than many conventional methods of achieving peace.

Over the course of human history, many strategies and techniques have been developed for neutralizing and correcting negative matrices both in individuals and in collectives.
Among such approaches are immersion in the ‘lower’ layers of the mind, shamanic scrying, theurgy, and goetia. For example, theurgic activation of constructive matrices can counterbalance negative manifestations of the “malicious” ones, and although curing cancer with theurgy would require superhuman powers, as part of a comprehensive approach it helps.
Two pillars of magical development — purification and activation — should not be underestimated by a practitioner, both one’s own and universal. The study of theurgic approaches, seeking appropriate energies and supports, the activation of higher matrices, alongside methods for detecting destructive entities — this field of work should not be neglected, especially in difficult times, when the minds of entire nations are unwell.
