Numbers and Symbols

As we have already mentioned, any vortex and the sigil that describes it are a combination of static (sephirothic, numerical) and dynamic (tsinnarothic, letter) components. In other words, any form of motion, any process or phenomenon can be described with the help of letters and numbers and symbolized — by a sigil. At the same time, as we have already noted, from the standpoint of the Magical myth, a sigil is not merely a “sign” or an “image” of a vortex, a process, a phenomenon; it is one of the forms of its manifestation, one of the slices of its being.

Therefore, of course, proper composition and reading sigils also means a more effective way to interact with the environment, since in Magic action and awareness are inseparable. To put it differently, when a magician learns to construct or read sigils, they also learn to act effectively; and by achieving successful outcomes, they simultaneously increase their ability to understand and construct symbols.

If at the level of phrases of sacred texts and Names of Power the letter notation also includes numerical notation (since each letter also has a numerical correspondence), then for sigils and other symbols these graphic forms coexist; therefore, since ancient times people represented ideas expressed by numbers — by corresponding figures and signs.

Thus, a point expresses unity, the number one and Keter’s symbolism; duality is often represented by a crescent; the triad is embodied by a triangle in the image of a triangle; the tetrad by a square or cross; the pentad, hexad, heptad, octoad — of corresponding multi-pointed stars; the circle symbolizes ten of ten (and sometimes zero), and so on. At the same time, “convex” forms — stars, crosses, and the like — relate to expansive, active manifestations of the corresponding energy “outward,” whereas polygons indicate limiting manifestations, oriented inward.

In other words, if we see (or introduce) a triangle in a sigil, it likely denotes creative energy, wisdom, or a divine principle active in the given vortex/process/agent; a cross denotes the material plane and the presence of creative forces; a square denotes material limits, and so forth.

Consider, as an example, the sigil of the vortex of Belial — a demon of distorted collectivity. In our book “The New Lemegeton, volume 3” we discussed that this sigil depicts a mask that hides the face and releases suppressed dark impulses.

At the same time, a structural analysis shows that it is built from two Kaf letters facing each other (“palm”

), above them is a Chet ‘fence’ (

), and below are two Yods flanked by crescents (“Hand,”

) and Vav meaning ‘Nail’

As a result, it is obvious that the sigil is based on the word ‘כוחי’ (“My Power,” “Authority”), which forms the logos of Belial’s vortex. The four crosses that complement the sigil suggest crucifixion, the bringing down into matter of all elemental forces indicating the demon’s universal influence, and the two crescents point to his contradictory activity (compare with the image of the two angels in which Matanbukh appears), both in the macrocosm and psychocosm. A careful researcher, using the indicated method, can discover additional meanings of this sigil, on the basis of which to better understand the vortex’s character expressed by it.

Thus, elementary analysis and symbol interpretation underlying sigils is another of the important tools that help to understand the nature of vortices; and careful selection and combination of symbols in composing sigils to increase their effectiveness.

  1. Hello Master! Please tell me where to search for information. Recently, I see symmetrical, whole, strange numbers everywhere. Strange situations with them. Dreams with numbers. Up to the point where a person approaches asking for alms exactly the amount I have, which I received change ten minutes ago.

  2. Saen, try meditating on numbers. Catch an image and reach for it with your consciousness, and then interact. If you practice astral projection, you can reach the space of numbers through it. By the way, the power explained to me that its name is Pifa, and Pythagoras is the one to whom it projects and through whom it manifests. And you can also listen to the Music of the Spheres. 🙂

  3. Hello Master! I studied what you advised, but I wouldn’t say I got much closer to understanding. Recently I had a dream that I was going out at night in race number 5 in a distance of 55. Half a year before the well-known events of February, this date was stalking me with precision to the day. As I understand it, numbers and names mean something too? Is there a universal way of translation?

    • Hello. Number 5 in the race 55 indeed signifies the necessity to learn to manifest your freedom, considering the freedom of others – it concerns the interaction of two freedoms. Yes, words can be translated into numbers, and numbers into words. This is an old Kabbalistic method – gematria. But there are many ways of such decoding; one needs to select the appropriate one for your situation.

      • I still do not fully understand what to do with my freedom. I feel like I am 18, bursting with freedom, but I know nothing. I try not to disturb the freedom of others, but it doesn’t always succeed.
