The Energy of Desire

As we have often said, the driving force behind the mind’s process of realization — behind its self-actualization in activity — are desires.

It is clear that since desire is, in fact, a potential difference, it possesses energy, the use of which serves as the source for any movement of consciousness.

We also discussed that desires arise as realizational impulses — the yearnings of a manifested entity to take the next step on its path of manifestation, self-knowledge, and self-actualization.

We will stress once again that it is precisely the energy of desires that is the only fuel capable of urging a being into realization. Existence itself is the product of the desire to manifest — an attraction between the absolute field of potentials and its actualized state. This means that behind every action stands one desire or another. Less obvious, however, is the fact that realization does not always occur at the expense of the desire’s own energy; in other words, quite often the energy of a desire is not spent on its own fulfillment but is redirected toward realizing some other desire or, even more often, a whim.

The mechanism of this drain is very simple: an impulse of desire arises in the mind that “does not enter” the stream of consciousness (for example, it “doesn’t fit” into its self-description at that moment, seems “inconvenient,” fails to meet certain criteria, or is simply “drowned out” by a louder drive or an imposed need). In such a case, this impulse can either “fade away,” go into the shadow, or it can transform and be used to accomplish something that has no independent sources of energy — whims or caprices. As we know, the second option is much safer — the energy is simply lost, and even if unfavorable consequences accumulate and destructive currents are created in the process, it is still considerably better than the growth of the shadow.

However, it is clear that in neither case does the desire
perform its direct function — it does not serve as a source for the mind’s development.

To avoid this error, a Magus must learn to identify his desires — that is, correctly establish the cause of a given impulse of energy appearing in the psychocosmos. Thus, as we know, the principle of feelings needs the corrective ordering influence of the principle of intelligence, whose task is precisely to recognize states and impulses. A desire identified and directed by intelligence (whether rightly or wrongly), as we know, constitutes the will to act. Conscious will is traditionally called intention.

Moreover, the more the energy of desires is used “for its direct purpose” — the greater the effectiveness of the mind’s manifestations.

Accordingly, the Magus is all the more successful on the path to developing his mind when the freer impulses of desire arise in his psychocosmos, and the more directly they are realized — the less energy is diverted to non-essential uses and dissipations.

  1. To divert myself a little from my opinion, I became curious about what another being thinks on this matter. In the world I created, I turned to a human I created: Boris, what is your Desire? Explain. B – creates a ball of energy in his palm and claps it with another palm, destroying it. I – is this related to the emergence of life and death? B – not quite. Although desire is the basis of any life. Desire is the initial impulse. It is what precedes appearance. One could say – it is the spirit of any manifestation. I – what is your Will? Boris goes to the window. B – do you see, the Luminary is rising? This is will. Will is the body of desire. Thanked him, disconnected from the world. What I understood: it is incorrect to equate Desire and whim. Desire is to want to inhale, and whim is the act of breathing itself.

    • Your B. wanted to tell you that the Luminary is the progenitor of realization, the will that fills the shell with its light and animates it. Desire can be turned into whim, without light. But can whim be made into desire? Probably not. Why should two suns shine for each other? Only perhaps if they are close.

    • I agree that desire is equivalent to the desire to inhale, and not only to inhale; it is equivalent to the desire to breathe fully, and sometimes even in conditions of vacuum, to breathe not as is ‘accepted’. I suspect that the realization of whims and fancies on the energy of Desire rather reduces the ability to breathe fully, leads to the folding of life programs, loss of integrity and leads to that fragmentation of consciousness that Enmerkar speaks of. In this sense, there should be no compromises in the realization of Desire. However, it is noted that the stronger the Desire, the more “alternatives” the world offers. Perhaps so that one’s own variant of fulfilling Desire “gets lost” in a mass of supposedly similar ones. A passage from a fairy tale comes to mind, where Ivan Tsarevich gets into the kingdom of the Underwater King to rescue Vasilisa, and he is given the task among numerous Vasilisas, who all look alike, to find his own… So let’s learn to listen to our hearts, remain vigilant; we can listen to our heads later:)

      • What a thoughtless system this is. Why embed programs in a person for which realization is fundamentally impossible in their current incarnation? It should be about how to disable these programs rather than about realizing desires, so that there is no suffering. After all, potential exists, but translating it into an actual state is still impossible. For example, a person with AIDS or possessed by demons… They cannot, in principle, be cured or live the life they would like. Tell how to switch or completely turn off oneself from what is impossible. And quite possibly, their desires are true, just embedded in them before they became sick, possessed, or some other way. I want to say, such people are needed by someone, and that the Universe has foreseen everything. But they’re not needed and weren’t anticipated) And after all, Magic is also the path to liberation from suffering.

        • The path of magic, as a path of liberation, shows ways to bring consciousness into a balanced-harmonious state. Much can be healed. With the desire, everything can be achieved. First, demonic and related ideas are nurtured and controlled, and when a mage grows up and their consciousness enters their field of activity, they either expel or negotiate.

          • I’m not sure a person can handle this on their own. A mentor is needed. Where can one find them and how to know that this mentor is not possessed by a demon or some accompanying idea? Even if possessed, it might not matter if they help and guide how to exit. One can walk until the coffin board, educate, distinguish, and still not get anywhere. Question number one: where to find a mentor? Question number two: how to persuade them to agree? It’s scary to imagine how this being will think with their own mind that they can either expel or negotiate, and to what extent they can negotiate or expel. Dark pictures emerge…

          • What do you want your Mentor to guide you in? – How to live correctly until death?

          • I try to be honest. A mentor is needed not for death, but for life.

          • You do not know how to live rightly and think that a Mentor will teach you how to live correctly, how to reveal your talents?

          • No, who can know how to live rightly or wrongly? And in general, what does it mean “correctly” – by whose rules? No, a mentor can warn against global mistakes, sees from the outside what a student cannot see, will guide, will suggest. I am trying to sort things out in myself and in the world around me. I experiment in different directions. Some of them cannot be combined at all, but I decided I would check with my forehead. But it’s very ineffective. It keeps pushing me back; I keep falling into traps and crawling out of them with difficulty. Most of those who offer their methods or practices for liberation and knowledge seek sources of energies, create their egregores or traps for seekers. I cannot judge them, but I fall for it and then spend strength and time to get out of that. It’s hard to do alone, or maybe that’s how it should be? Maybe truly the forehead is the best mentor?) As various romantics say, “Freedom must be fought for”?) I will write here about “the accumulation of property”. Working with the energies of finances and business – that’s an experience, it’s the knowledge of the world and of oneself. You will never know how you relate to money until you don’t have it. You won’t learn to manage it, to give and receive it, if you don’t have it. This is what manifests complexes in a person and requires liberation from them. Fears, lack of freedom. You stumble upon another stone, “process” it again with the same forehead and move on. If you have a million, how will you relate to it? Will you cherish it and tremble over it or can you calmly give, invest, or lose it? So for someone this is also a school and perhaps the best path to understand and change something within oneself. And again the question in the view from the side. I just want to be a well-off person, live in luxury and wealth, or am I learning something, and when I understand everything I need to understand, I will go to live in silence, where none of this will exist and I will feel super from this silence?

          • Do you realize what you want from a potential Mentor? And what will He receive from you in return? ………………………………… I will explain…… between a teacher and a student, there is inevitably an energy exchange that is more or less mutually penetrating. If you need a certain quality of Attention and Energy characteristic of a Mentor, what will you give him in return? Especially in case he has no need for your Attention and your Energy?

          • Know what is important – the moment you are in. “Not the moment where someone is leading you by a leash so you don’t bump into corners.” For you, relationships – is it co-dependency or cooperation? Cooperation, by the way, arises between equals; everything else is co-dependency and unhealthy relationships. But I digress.

Let’s not pretend to be blind, deaf, weak, and completely uncomprehending. In my opinion, you have eyes to look around and truly assess what you represent in reality, without exaggerating or downplaying (and judging by the “neediness,” you seem to enjoy doing that) your abilities. Stop your inner seesaw and engage a realistic perspective. By the way, without critical thinking, there’s no place for you in magic, or it’s a slippery slope to schizophrenia. The people around you are also your mirrors. When you genuinely evaluate your life and surroundings, ask yourself – do you agree with living this way or not? And if not, what do you need to change or do? So go ahead! Create your life, damn it. Yourself!

          • And about Love. I will never know love fully unless I see that love before my eyes every day, nagging, annoying, demanding attention, patience, daily work, and care. You can know and understand a lot in theory, but if a thought occasionally arises deep within you, “why do I need this happiness?” and you step on it and tell yourself “because love”, you cannot tell yourself “yes, I know what true love is”. I apologize for the clumsy literary style; I want the meaning to be clear. I will not edit it.

          • I was searching and got noticed. From my observations, not all mages correctly understand and bear the responsibility that appears in them. Regarding demonology and so on. A mage’s consciousness grows, they learn their nature, and in the process of growth, they encounter both other types of consciousness and the understanding that their own consciousness has limitations, both in the form of blocks, settings, and in the form of other entities that wish to feed on your energy. Minimize the dark within yourself. It is more important for a person not to allow evil, greed, anger, pride within themselves. The choice always rests with the individual.

          • Numen, please tell me, how do you recognize evil in yourself? Well, anger is understandable. But pride, greed – the meaning of these words is not very clear. I specifically looked it up in the dictionary, greed is something between covetousness and avarice. Can you recognize greed in yourself? And pride – that’s just darkness.) Perhaps you need to ask some control questions, like: I think this because… I feel this because… I behave this way because… And even then, there’s no guarantee you’ll answer honestly.) Considering these various companions of ours, who specialize in excuses.) In general, share your experience. Maybe you have some markers, beacons of this nastiness? I am not joking, I sincerely began to think and hit my forehead against the wall. I have always believed that envy is alien to me, but it turns out that it’s not. And it introduced itself, like a poster with big letters, it was disgusting. But it’s clear, so what about those that are from the fog, and are, and are not, and have a bunch of excuses, explanations, justifications??

          • “… Where can you get it, and how to understand if this mentor is not possessed by a demon or some accompanying idea? Even if they are possessed, perhaps it doesn’t matter if they help and guide how to exit. One could walk up to the coffin board, educating, distinguishing, and still not getting anywhere. Question number one: where to find a mentor? Question number two: how to persuade them to agree?…” I initially didn’t understand why Tavita leans towards consumerist relationships. What question – such an answer. The market of mentoring services. And is your mentor surely genuine, not expired? Am I not to set out? Where to get the real one – don’t you advise where to give them away? And how to negotiate with them? …………………………. Ah, all that’s left is to set a price.

        • Let’s take the human organism. Evidently, its system is also thoughtless since we feel pain. Why do we need it? We have learned to disconnect it with anesthetics, or even better, ignore it, not visit terrible hospitals, live as we did – overeat, do not sleep, party through the nights, smoke, drink alcohol, and take painkillers for headaches, stomach aches, and sleep medications… Then to learn that stomach cancer awaits on the horizon, or an amputation of a leg (and then blame the unjust world and inability to realize a potential of an athlete). Pain, like suffering, are specific signals that are not offered without reason. Usually, regarding health, it is said that you must turn on your head at the outset rather than after health is ruined. Whereas in terms of spirituality, it’s about awareness – understanding the causes and consequences and what is given for what purpose. Therefore, the first question for awareness – why does a person get AIDS? In my opinion, it is not even a genetic disease (and not related to family errors at all), but what about being possessed by demons, demons do not enter anyone – they need an invitation. Opening the gates of psychocosmos, where a person behaves as a Demon. Like attracts like. After all, who can become an exorcist? Who is pure and without worms through which demons can enter? The obsessed can be healed and live according to their purpose (I intentionally avoid the word “want” here since wants are usually whims), but do they really strive for this? In my opinion, their will speaks for itself. I corresponded with one… now a mage. It was truly terrifying to read his stories about seizures and dreams of a normal life. First of all, he fought and was heard through “chance” pointing him to a path. Secondly, this path proved to be magical; otherwise, he can no longer imagine his life. When a person reasons that they are unnecessary to the Universe – this only indicates that they are unnecessary to themselves. The Universe is always a projection of the internal state of a person. Your delusions and illusions bring you suffering. Magic is liberation from delusions and illusions, not from suffering.

          • Magic is just one way to oneself, to the true self. The human is akin to God, and God is infinite (if any characteristics can even be applied to Him) and so human self-realization is also infinite. You may not engage in magic – don’t. But there are those who have been ‘backed into a corner’ and they can only breathe through magic – otherwise they’ll suffocate. That is their path, the path of wizards.

          • For a being that has realized changes through its actions, the question of whether to ‘practice’ or ‘not to practice’ magic does not arise. Understanding processes leads to the understanding that magic is life, and the reason for refusing actions most likely lies in the influence of third parties. There are two paths: development or degradation, and understanding this makes us more responsible towards ourselves and life. Refusing to act stems from lack of awareness. The Forces won’t understand.)

        • Seek the Master)) He does not need students. He is self-sufficient in his Being. He will serve as an exemplary guide and a collective image for behavior in life. The student-Guru relationship is well developed in the East. But now the time is a little different – more development of individuality is required. Lessons for the student: devotion, goodwill, surrender of the EGO, passive reception.

          • I would say that there are plenty of teachers, but there is no one to teach. Everyone wants everything at once. I think the simplest thing is to take a child with potential as a magician and train them. The consciousness is free and without blocks, but in this world, it is difficult.
The student’s task is: a striving for knowledge and a desire to help. If the School is serious, then the magician will understand in which system he is born and in what position everything around is situated. Such a magician will be offered resources, mentors, and protection. But many, when they delve into the seriousness of “being”, retreat. It is better for them to play with magic than to become someone.

  2. Can you imagine how beautiful this world is? If all people found themselves, dedicated themselves to their talents, the world would be thousands of times more beautiful. After all, not only artists or writers can be talented, and to clean, build, drive a car, be a janitor or sell goods, all of this is talent. Someone just concocted that one is prestigious and the other is not. There’s something to be said for the caste society of the Japanese, where even street sweepers were hereditary (and so were killers;)), probably it’s correct in the sense that there is no such thing as honorable or dishonorable work. There is talent. We are all very different and all very talented; we just need to consider ourselves, learn, and at least hear a little. I would change everything – the educational system, values, priorities; the greatest wealth lies within us.

    • Gurdjieff wrote in one of his books that one should study the horoscopes of newborn babies and help them develop in the directions where they have innate predispositions and abilities.

    • Golden words! This is how the powerful surrendered their power) That is why magic is not honored in this world. Because mages feel and know everything.

      • You know, I read various reviews about Enmerkar. I couldn’t understand what this phenomenon was. Some adore him, others can’t stand him. And it seems like both groups have no special explanations. But today it suddenly dawned on me. They are on opposite sides of the barricades) They will treat each other exactly the same way if they meet in real life) No one should be idolized, and no one should be hated. Both extremes are destructive. However, looking at this site, blogs, books, it is impossible to remain without enthusiasm and admiration.) Numen

  3. Numen, a person cannot “not allow into themselves” evil, greed, anger, pride. A person can strangle and suppress such manifestations, but… suppressed emotions do not die; they continue to influence a person’s actions and thoughts from the inside. Something from the outside resonates with what is inside and… a person becomes angry and irate, covets and resents, and craves vengeance. “Dark” and “Light” need explanations, which means someone’s point of view seeks to become the only true and correct one. Anger and rage exhaust themselves when they find no more reasons for their emergence. Resentment exhausts itself when the pain subsides. And greed has a reason, often rooted in early childhood. The system seeks equilibrium – sometimes through anger and rage, through destruction, through the accumulation of property.

    • Malice and all other emotions can be neutralized. For this, it is necessary to catch the moment when a particular emotion arises and take it under control, neutralizing it with calmness or positivity. Energy promotes attraction and accumulation of its spectrum, therefore negativity attracts negativity and vice versa. People do not realize this, which is why there are so many embittered people around, and the very space is changing. It’s sad to feel this. I try to change the space where I live.

      • The moment an emotion appears is the consequence of certain reasons. The moment an emotion appears can be very tumultuous. Neutralizing an emotion with calmness or positivity is unrealistic. It may be possible if it is a very weak emotion.) If an emotion arises, it must be lived through to the end, and then analyzed to find the cause of its appearance, and work through the cause. Recognizing the reasons for the emergence of emotions helps to first avoid situations, irritants that cause unwanted emotions. And subsequently, to become more and more indifferent to these irritants. This will not work the first time. It is a process that requires time, attention, feeling, analysis, honest admissions to oneself about things one could not admit before. Not everyone is capable of such. Even to make the decision to try to manage one’s own anger, a person needs strength, desire. There is a concept called the speed of nerve reactions, specifically excitation and inhibition. If a person’s speed of nerve reactions is fast for excitation but slow for inhibition, they by nature cannot quickly switch to another state; their nervous system does not allow it. Such a person will not calm down until they have released all the energy that is already ready to emerge. You write like an armchair philosopher. No offense. How many conflicting situations among people have you smoothed out and nullified? If you had experience interacting with different people showing their emotions, you would understand that each person requires a special approach. You cannot generalize everyone under one rule. Far from every person would like to change; to put it another way, very few want to, and even fewer do. And here there is nothing to be sad about. This, as you rightly noted, is everyone’s choice, even if it is an unconscious choice.

  4. En, I started to think that you “disappeared from the radar.” But you are still somewhere on them. … “The element of feelings needs the fixing and organizing influence of the element of reason, whose task is precisely to recognize states and impulses” These words should be whispered into the ears of women and devushki. But reason is usually absent there. More precisely – “there is reason, but we don’t use it.”

  5. I don’t know. If I take a student, I understand why I am doing this. I think that the motives for teaching magic are not very different from those for other disciplines if it is a matter of life. I teach and hope to extend myself in this person, give them a business in which they can become better than me, where they will not hit bumps and more quickly learn what I know and go further than me. Even if they do not remain with me, they will receive a path along which they may walk more freely than I have. Is there not joy in seeing oneself in someone else? This is the ebb and flow of power and life… Well, and if it works out, then a nurtured partner is more reliable than a highly publicized, three-hundred-times certified specialist. Well, maybe in magic it’s a bit different, but will someone become a teacher who doesn’t need it? And why do you think that he must necessarily need something or need something like what I cannot give? And that they will all definitely demand exactly what I don’t have, and how can they demand it, after all, they are mages, and already know that I have something incomprehensible that I lack))

    • Why is the conversation only about the presence of a student and teacher, and the necessity of the student only for the teacher? 🙂 For example, in my magical school, some mages receive rewards for completed work. We help not only this world but also complete assignments in other worlds, assisting other races. And in the process of this work, we develop ourselves, gaining experience, mastering new energies, interacting with new forms of consciousness. An experienced mage and astral worker is worth their weight in gold. And it is possible to teach the mage everything if they wish.

  6. Did I understand correctly that the energy from unfulfilled true desire to walk the magical Path is redirected to the realization of whims and caprices? And this energy transformation is what the discussed distractor mechanism implements?
