The Epoch of Kesair and the Descent of the Powers of Murias

According to a reconstruction of the Faery Chronicles, based on the “Book of Invasions of Ireland” (Lebor Gabála Érenn) — a source containing both legendary and paleo-historical information — and correlated with the paleontological history of Earth, the development of the world is divided into six great ages, each corresponding to specific geological, biological, and meta-historical processes, as well as to the arrival on Earth of various Waves of life, beings, and forces:
- The Age of Cessair (~4.1 billion – ~440 million years ago)
- The Age of Partholón (~440 – ~360 million years ago)
- The Age of Nemed (~360 – ~250 million years ago)
- The Age of Fir Bolg (~250 – ~199 million years ago)
- The Age of Tuatha de Danann (~199 – ~20 million years ago)
- The Age of the Biological Mind (the Sons of Míl) (~20 million years ago – present).

Each of these ages can be described both in terms of the physical evolution of matter and life, and as a stage in the sequential arrival of forces shaping the Middle World, including the forces of the Primordial Elements (fiery, airy, watery, and earthy). These elemental forces are connected with the so-called Cities of the Elements (Finias — Fire, Gorias — Air, Murias — Water, Falias — Earth), existing in the Interworld and manifesting as components of physical reality.
In the Age of Cessair, the first in this chronology, three key events take place:
- The arrival of creative elemental forces: first Finias manifests (the fire of the depths and volcanism), then Gorias (the atmosphere), then Murias (the formation of the hydrosphere), and finally Falias (the stabilization of land and solid structures). At the same time, only after the arrival of the forces of Murias do suitable conditions appear for the emergence of biological life: water, fluidity, plasticity, dissolution, and flexible structuring.
- The appearance of oceans and the biochemical basis of life, which correlates with the “beginnings of Cessair,” when the first rudiments of the future biosphere appear on Earth, organized both physically and energetically. The formation of the first continents (Vaalbara (~3.6–2.8 billion years ago), Ur (~3.0–2.7 billion years ago), Kenorland (~2.7–2.5 billion years ago) and subsequent ones) occurs thanks to the manifestation of the forces of Falias.
- The first descent of the alvs — the most ancient structuring beings, gods of information and form. This descent took place long before the appearance of any organic forms of life. Having first manifested on Earth, the alvs built primary energy-informational structures, outlining the contours of the future world order. At the end of this age they departed into the Interworld, where they gave rise to the first proto-people of the faery; however, they left behind traces in the manifested world in the form of energy nodes, special informational fields, crystalline matrices, and the simplest forms of life.

Thus, the Age of Cessair is a period in which the very first foundations of the world are laid: its symbolic foundations, energies, primary structures. It includes the processes of shaping matter and semantic fields, preparing Earth for subsequent stages of the evolution of matter and the emergence of consciousness.
We have already noted that every time a new world or space is formed, it is precisely the alvs who enter it first. They form the structure of space itself so that life streams can begin to flow within it. Without them, space would become archontic — icy, static, closed, and inert. The alvs, however, make space fluid, flexible, and suitable for the formation of structures, phenomena, and beings.

The first descent of the alvs was connected with fiery activity, transforming the planet from a chaotic clump of substance into a plastic, dynamic sphere of condensing matter. At the same time, immediately after the descent of the alvs, the attacks of the chaotic forces of fire also begin — supervolcanism, meteorite impacts, the boiling of the depths of the forming planet. Therefore, the Vanir then join the struggle, and, as the legends claim, Freyr — one of their leaders — tames fire and turns it into a process of oxidation necessary for life. This correlates with the geochemical emergence of oxygen and early aerobic mechanisms. The forces of order — the Aesir — rise to defend the forming cosmos, opposing the entropic influences surrounding it.
Thus, the first wave of creative energy descended from Finias, the Elemental City of Fire, and was described as the “Sword of Nuada,” that is, the force that pushed back primordial chaos and established a “protected” space of new formation. It manifested as volcanic activity and the heat of the Earth’s depths, when the planet still lacked a stable surface and was covered by an ocean of lava. This “creative fire” of Finias represents the primordial spark of the formation of matter and structures. This is already directed energy, which then contributes to the formation of the first solid continental cores (cratons, the “Stones of Destiny”).

The second city to manifest was Gorias, the city of Air, giving rise to the planet’s primary atmosphere. The power of Gorias was expressed in the spread and structuring of primary elements: the first gases, volcanic emissions, the first air currents, the formation of the atmosphere, and the creation of conditions in which liquid water could appear — all this is described as the “Spear of Lugh,” the energy of active expansion. Gorias ensured interaction between the elements, spreading energy and setting primary atmospheric structures, which prepared the ground for the next step.
With the end of the fiery stage, watery, feminine forces arrive. They impart fluidity and bring about the oceans themselves and primary life within them — coacervates and archaea. Their activity is connected with the City of Murias, which thus becomes the core of biospheric formation — the “Cauldron of the Dagda,” in which the first rudiments of future life are “cooked.” Undines, nagas, watery cherubs, and the Great Lady Nexa govern the energies of water — from its boiling to its calm.

A key early stage of Cessair at the beginning of the Age of Cessair is the manifestation of the powers of Murias, expressed in the form of four primary energies, embodied as four water dragons:
- Red Dragon (South) — the energy of evaporation and the ascending flow of water, the formation of the first clouds and cycles of the water cycle in nature, which contributed to creating climatic conditions for life.
- White Dragon (West) — the energy of mist and the dispersal of water, irrigating the first continents and creating conditions for the chemical interaction of elements in the first small bodies of water where the simplest organisms would arise.
- Blue Dragon (East) — the energy of flow, expressing extended currents and flows of the primordial ocean, uniting aquatic environments into a single system, ensuring the distribution of nutrients and the stability of conditions for the development of the first forms of life.
- Black Dragon (North) — the energy of resistance, viscosity, and elasticity of water, personifying the density of the primordial ocean and the formation of stable habitats capable of resisting changes in external conditions.

These four manifestations of the powers of Murias ensured the emergence of a stable hydrosphere and the possibility of the origin and evolution of life. Together with the watery elements, their conscious manifestations also entered the dense world — undines, water elementals embodying the energy of fluidity, adaptability, and emotional depth, and the central cherub of Murias — ETDIM, the Great Mother, whose energy expresses the hidden and mighty power of the oceans, which become the cradle of life.
Undines, the elementals of Murias, are beings connected from the very beginning with the primordial ocean of any world. In the forming physical world of Earth, their energy permeated the ancient waters, imparting to them the ability to sustain life cycles and initiate the first chemical reactions leading to the emergence of life. They also express the ability of water to adapt, flow, dissolve, and renew substances and energies, acting as conductors of primordial life, the rudiments of future biological fluidity.

The Queen of the city of Murias — Nexa — and her High Priestess Semiya govern interactions between water and elements of the water element with other elements, forming the basic mechanisms of the origin of life, harmonizing energy flows and ensuring the stability of the primary ecosystem.
Thus, the real beginning of the Age of Cessair is connected precisely with the arrival in the world of the powers of Murias, since only with the emergence of a stable hydrosphere did Earth obtain the necessary conditions for the origin of biological life. From this moment, physical and metaphysical processes are inextricably intertwined, reflecting the manifestations of water as a physical and energetic primordial element, a key factor in the development of the biosphere and later the noosphere. This age included many more geological, energetic, and semantic events, and ended only billions of years later, with the Ordovician–Silurian extinction; however, it is important to remember that it was the powers of Murias that became the starting point of Earth’s biological and spiritual history.
