The Error of Devaluation

Since the development of mind occurs through the uncovering and actualization of its potential, and since this, in turn, is achieved through actions aimed at the realization of “true desires“, it is of key importance to be aware of a hierarchy among these desires, and therefore — to form and examine a value system that motivates the individual to act.

Indeed, for a desire to grow into action, the single impulse of energy contained in the desire itself is not enough. One must also recognize the necessity and value of that action.

Accordingly, for the development of the mind to proceed successfully and effectively, the desire impulse arising deep within it must, first, be realized along the most “natural“, suitable path for it, and, second, sufficient resources must be devoted to it.

Conversely, if the path distorted for a desire’s realization leads to its energy being scattered into unrelated channels, then a lack of resources leads to poor realization and the energy being wasted.

Of course, destructive elements within the psychocosmos, predators and parasites, use both strategies to undermine the effectiveness of the mind’s manifestations, and therefore — to sustain themselves.

We have already widely discussed the first strategy: it involves “slipping in” paths of realization that are unsuitable to the desire’s nature, redirecting energy into irrelevant channels and producing outcomes unrelated to the original impulse. For example, the desire to be needed pours itself into the purchase of a new iPhone, the desire to understand turns into cold logic, and the striving for focus becomes idleness.

However, in the modern era, the second strategy has acquired no less destructive influence.

Since the motivator for action is the sense of value, clearly, significantly less energy is spent on actions whose value is unrecognized or denied than on those considered valuable. Thus — by implanting the idea of the action’s unimportance or the realization’s meaninglessness — one can extract significant benefit from the unrealized energy of the desire that seeks expression through that action.

It is precisely this strategy — of pervasive indifference — that is often even elevated to a kind of “wisdom”, presented as non-attachment and detachment.

Nevertheless, it is not hard to notice that the strategy of “not caring” is in fact a drive toward loss, toward the suppression of energy. And therefore — for its empty dissipation; people who look down at the “world of vanity” with weary arrogance usually consign whole reserves of energy to waste.

Laziness, as a failure to see action’s value, is a true scourge of our age; pervasive indifference — suppressed drives — that forms the main food source for demons of every kind.

For a Magus, the fire of desire, the clear burning of the mind, and the striving to realize and to be realized are not merely attractive slogans or life principles; they guarantee his effectiveness, and therefore — the survival and development of the individual’s stream of consciousness.
