The Awakening of the Dragon

magus

Having embarked on the Path of self-realization, the Magus begins his ascent – from level to level, from strength to strength, awakening and actualizing his potential.

A very important stage in this ascent emphasized by the schools of the Western Tradition is the attainment of the Self – the discovery of the core of one’s individuality, or, as is often said today, the Knowledge and Conversation with the Holy Guardian Angel.

This attainment, marking the transition from Seeker to Adept, undoubtedly lays a solid foundation for further movement.

Nevertheless, before reaching the level of Tiphereth, crossing Paroket and finding there his Archetype, the Magus must be kindled by the Zealot’s fire, must pass through the flame of Yesod, since it is precisely this flame that drives all further ascent.

This moment is often overlooked, and the Veil of the Rainbow, Keshet, which separates the Way’s first degree from the rest of the Tree, often seems insignificant.

Masakiel

At the same time, an ascent lacking the powerful (though not self-consuming) fire of Yesod lacks the necessary momentum, and this is one of the reasons why, in the last century, the world has known few masters who have overcome the Abyss. By “skipping” the Lunar sphere and hurrying toward the Sun of Tiphereth, travelers lose the Fire, and then, even if they reach the Abyss, they are thrown back by its guardian – Masakiel – into Zeir Anpin.

Therefore the attainment of the Fire, traditionally described as the Awakening of the Dragon, is not merely important but an essential element of the growth of awareness.

Many Magi, oriented toward “spiritual” values and the speculative aspects of the upper world, often neglect this elemental, hard-to-manage force, and as a result experience sluggish crawling instead of a fiery ascent.

dragon

As mentioned, a person encountering for the first time the elemental basis of his Psychocosmos often perceives it as hostile, becomes afraid, or, conversely, enters into conflict with it, sometimes even defeats and kills it, thereby becoming a flat, one-dimensional hero, so loved and celebrated by various epic works.

The task of the Magus, however, is the mounting the Dragon, obtaining his invaluable aid, his fire, his wings as the necessary condition for crossing the Abyss. It is on the wings of the Dragon that the Magus flies through Choronzon, and even when the Demon of the Abyss devours and scatters the very essence of the Magus’s being, the Dragon’s fiery nature helps him be reborn, and the Dragon himself, having passed through the Abyss, is reborn as a Phoenix – the pure essence of the primordial Fire.

beast

It is this Beast that the late Magus Crowley had in mind when describing his new nature found beyond the Abyss.

Therefore the Magus must not be afraid of the Dragon sleeping in his depths; he must awaken it, and then mount it if he hopes to reach the highest reaches of his realization. Moreover, those who have already risen above Yesod but have not awakened this fire in themselves must, not being idle and setting aside their pride, descend, and undertake the Dragon’s great quest.

  1. “To pass the flame of Yesod” means to manifest in oneself, to a certain necessary minimum, the water element, Svadisthana, and to subordinate it?
    Respectfully.

    • Yes, Yesod is the level of sexual energies as well. Because, for the creative energy to become available, it must exit the potential state, actualize, and become acting; it needs a force of attraction, which is called Eros (Ea). Therefore, any creativity, in essence, uses sexual (or rather, energy awakened by Eros) energy. This stage is referred to by Kabbalah as “Shamaim” – “liquid fire” in the sense of the flow of energy that combines opposites.

  2. Dear Enmerkar, what exactly does the ‘dragon quest’ consist of, if we speak in practical terms?

    • I will ask the question differently, how to prepare yourself (your Consciousness) for the ‘dragon quest’? In the topic ‘on the wings of the dragon,’ there was talk about a ‘pure’, structured element, how to find it or how to create it?

      • Hello, Milita. In order to prepare yourself for the ‘Dragon Quest,’ our esteemed Enmerkar directs us to develop the integrity of will, to achieve maximum concentration, that is, its purity. The very ‘Dragon Quest’ consists of mastering the elemental force of your Psychocosm. There is no need to create a ‘virgin’; it already exists within us, search for that pure, unspoiled element of your consciousness (image, idea, quality). Go down, explore the depths of your psychocosm. Regarding what She writes: ‘… but you cannot Transform His Words into the Sensations of Your Body, because His Words are Saturated with His Personal Meaning, and do not carry equivalent meaning, personally for You…’ … The Word, ‘Logos’ – is the visible form of Creation; the esteemed Enmerkar shares with us not only his personal experience, but also an experience based on the unchanging Laws of Magic, Being!!! And in general, is it worth transforming words precisely into the Body, as She says? If it’s about the physical body, then definitely – it’s not worth it. 🙂 But transforming the Word into Consciousness (consciousness as a quality)… but that’s already another topic. Wishing you success.

  3. As for me, he wrote, even more than in a practical language….. the question is only to Transform the Words into the Sensations of the Body… yes, precisely the body, because the Mind, through which we usually try to comprehend everything, has no sensations, no feelings………..but you cannot Transform His Words into the Sensations of Your Body because His Words are Saturated with His Personal Meaning and do not carry equivalent meaning for you…… People, for some reason (perhaps because they are taught this from childhood) place reliance on Understanding of the Mind, ignoring, and often even disdainfully disregarding Understanding of the Body…. although it is precisely the Body that is the Form of Energy that is available for transformation, for metamorphosis… There exists a Chasm between the Understanding of the Mind and the Understanding of the Body….and Other People’s Words, unfortunately, are poor assistants in overcoming this chasm. ……as your esteemed Enmerkar wrote… ‘but do not listen to my words – only believe your heart’…………. a person needs support, some correct structure, which he could copy into himself and follow its internal nature, repeatedly following its closed algorithm……. therefore we seek support in some strong correct person………… but this is merely self-deception, chasing a phantom. Your Correct Words and Your Support Already exist within You……… but catching Their Sound is difficult; it’s like embarking on a search for Something Unknown…… Although Ivan the Fool from Russian folk tales seems to have found It 🙂

  4. The matter often is, Tavita, that we really do know the answers, somewhat distantly, abstractly, but… We know. Don’t you ever experience that when you ask a question, you feel inside ‘well, you know the answer… Why are you writing? Why are you asking a question? Why are you drawing attention to yourself?…’ And it’s because that knowledge, that answer you do not want to accept. You preach so well about ‘knowledge inside,’ but do you accept all the knowledge inside yourself? I think not. By the way, silence, as an aspect of inner knowledge, is the best answer.

    • Knowledge from within comes just at the moment when there is a need, a necessity for its application. That is, Knowledge from Within is Always Timely. Fear is our first enemy. There is no need to be afraid of being yourself, and there is no need to be afraid of accepting Your Answers, even if you seem monstrous, unworthy, dirty, or bad. Your opinion of yourself may be erroneous precisely because you are trying to Lean on Someone Else’s Opinion, a person that you consider right and worthy, better than you…………………………… Although, in reality, there is no one better or worse, no one more or less worthy or pure or smart. Simply everyone is different.

        • Knowledge of what and how to do right in a specific situation. I can provide an example from what is close to my nature: … mom said approximately at 10:30 PM that she felt very bad, severe pain in the abdominal area, and the pills are not helping and need to call an ambulance… … I needed to get up early and leave in the morning…. and all this ambulance and hospital did not fit into my plans…. so I asked my mom to lie down on the bed and let me help her. That evening was tough because…. liver, gallbladder, clogged ducts…… in short, such problems cannot be treated in five minutes. I worked for about two hours until my mom said she felt better. What I did and how, I probably cannot explain to you, because even in the great and mighty Russian language there are no words to describe actions taken with energy. The only thing I can say is that I hardly touched her body, just put my hands on her stomach for better preliminary diagnosis. The skin on my palms begins to hurt in the place where the patient feels pain, and, of course, I know where various organs are located. No one has ever taught me how to do that. This is Knowledge that comes from Within.

  5. I completely agree with what you mean. We are all different. And there is no Perfection, there is only Agreement to be Perfect.

  6. It’s interesting how one can explain that feeling of sensing one’s own limitations. There’s a clear boundary where my understanding ends and new insights have yet to arrive. It’s a sort of demarcation of concepts depending on one’s way of life, experiences, and familiar energies. There is no end to this, and everything we understand is just a part of the whole. Some things resonate with us, while others do not, yet there is a desire to look beyond. Once you have crossed that boundary, you want to know much more.

  7. I want to ask, for better understanding. How exactly to understand the riding of the Dragon? For example: let’s say that sexual energy is the very dragon, and when I feel its awakening, then the first option: I release it naturally, is that balancing? The second option: I go to the gym and engage in sports on its wave, is that riding? Sorry for the simplistic examples, I just want to figure it out.

    • Going to the gym is suppression, not riding. The goal is not to exhaust energy, the goal is to direct it. If you spend sexual energy on creativity, that is riding, but only if it does not happen through repression, that is, if the result of creativity leads to satisfaction, and not to the feeling of replacement.

  8. Enmerkar, good evening! What does it look like to gain the fire? What does it mean to meet your elemental ‘foundation,’ that part of us you call the Dragon? How can we meet it? Is it when you discover within yourself that there is something that scares you? I am 46 years old, and I cannot recall anything in myself that frightens me (I am surprised sometimes, something may not like as a deficiency or weakness, but it is hard to imagine fear). I would be very grateful if you could give a simplified example. Gaining integrity is the greatest thing; honestly, I thought I had it just naturally, a gift from heaven. I really liked your article; it resonates strongly. It seems that the Dragon can change your nature, although it seems that the Dragon is already a part of you, just not yet awakened. And, frankly, in practice, it is not clear at all at what point your Dragon’s curiosity will make itself known. If you can provide examples, that would be wonderful; it is very important to me. Thank you for the article!

    • The Dragon as a psycho-cosmic power is the ability of consciousness to carry its strong desires through the entire thickness of the psyche without losing or weakening them. When a person awakens a desire, its source is usually hidden in the foundations, in the depths of consciousness. When such a desire begins its ‘upward’ path toward the ‘daylight’ layers of consciousness, it often encounters suppressing influences in the form of habits, stereotypes, criteria, beliefs, etc. As a result, if the desire reaches the realization level, it is often significantly weakened and may not manifest in action. The Dragon, however, is the force that ‘carries’ the desire through all these obstacles and barriers – from inception to realization.

      • Thank you! You explained it so accessibly. And most importantly, right on target!!! And if the desire from within initially seems insane, but you discover that you are rearranging your life, clearing the field for its fulfillment, and beginning to accumulate resources, and then you do everything consciously, and even though you still think that in some way it is insane, the realization no longer seems completely impossible, as all your efforts are directed toward this, and sometimes the universe plays in your favor, even though the task is clearly not for your ‘old’ self, but you are already changing, and the changes are inevitable and further on, though not easy. The realization ultimately means changes not only externally but also internally; is this the ‘settling’ of the Dragon?

        • ‘Settling’ the Dragon is the ability to recognize one’s desires, to differentiate them from whims and fancies, and then intentionally realize them.
