Grigori and the Condensation of Vortices

From the standpoint of this Myth we are considering, “physical reality,” the “dense world,” is born as a result of the mind’s fixation on certain probabilities, their definition and naming, and thus the emergence of a world of ‘objects’. In other words, the world is ‘dense’ insofar as it is determined, and physical bodies result from that naming.

Accordingly, consciousness manifesting in such a determined world can ‘choose’ reality only at the moment it arises, by ‘fixing’ particular probabilities. This is precisely how free will appears at the human level of mind: the ‘free’ mind fixes reality, collapsing probabilities and thereby forming the field of its functioning — that is, creates its world.

When probabilities are not yet clearly defined, when only fields of possibility exist, the milieu telesmi is far more plastic. For that reason consciousness in this milieu relies on vortical structures, and since there is no ‘choice’ of reality in such conditions, mind and its vortical vehicles merely follow the energy flows of the environment, forming the currents of ‘ministering‘ beings.

We have already discussed that the boundary between these two modes of manifestation of mind — ‘free’ and ‘ministering’ — is not absolute, and mind, in principle, can change the form of its manifestation from monadic (‘free’) to vortical and back.

Moreover, if a reduction in fixedness, the body’s elevation and transition into an etheric or telesmatic vortex occurs as part of a natural upward striving and is, in fact, analogous to the natural stage of disembodiment in the interval between lives, the reverse process is quite difficult both because of the instability of the vortices themselves and because of the restraining activity of the angelic hierarchies.

For precisely this reason all ‘subtle’ beings — not only ministering spirits, but also gods and Elementers — require anchors on the physical plane for their manifestation: images, icons, statues and similar objects.

Therefore cases in which such a change nevertheless occurs, when vortices condense into dense bodies, deserve special attention.

Strictly speaking, all of modern civilization owes its rise to this event and development: the arrival in our world of the Observers — Grigori.

There are several theories about why, several thousand years ago, a group of Seraphim made this transition. The Books of Enoch claim that the reason was ‘lust’ — the sexual desire of angels for humans. Other hypotheses mention a striving for liberation that drove the angels to ‘descend’ on Mount Hermon, or even fleeing from demons that displaced them.

Be that as it may, it was the Grigori, and their descendants — the Nephilim, Giborim and Elioud — who brought the heavenly ‘creative spirit’ to the earth, ‘teaching’ people crafts, sciences and arts. It is unlikely this refers to literal instruction in metallurgy, agronomy, cosmetics, witchcraft and astrology as Enoch recounts; rather, the ideas themselves, the aspirations and potential to develop them of technology, science and Magic were brought.

Again, it is debatable whether these impulses were beneficial for the development of the human mind or, conversely, whether they turned it in some harmful direction; nevertheless, thanks to the Grigori the Earth-Gaia’s civilization embarked on a technological path of development.

It is not known for certain whether other instances of vortices condensing into bodies occurred besides the one described by Enoch — of course such a possibility exists — but even this example shows how the transition of consciousness between waves of life can change the development of entire worlds. Moreover, contacts between the Grigori (and their descendants) and representatives of Magical orders and Lines deepened understanding of evolution’s driving forces as well as of the nature of consciousness and the forms of its manifestation.
