The Mountains’ Resonance
Just as the forest has long allowed Magi to touch primordial wisdom, mountains have long been the places best suited to fostering the evolution of the mind, especially toward Magic.
It was in the mountains that Magi sought and found union with the creating forces, and it was on the cloud-piercing summits that they attained glimpses of illumination, clarity of thought, and ordering of the senses, memories of which helped them survive the turmoil of battle.
There are several reasons that make mountain provinces unique places for the evolution of the spirit.
One of these reasons we have already discussed – in the mountains the action of the Grounding Force, necessary for life and deepening consciousness but sometimes hindering its development, is minimal. The very ascent into the mountains is an act in which an evolutionary impulse manifests itself, a kind of “step toward Heaven.”
Another obvious aspect is the well-known ability of rock formations to form resonant ensembles that affect consciousness by acting upon the body. Moreover, such interaction can produce various effects, for example destabilizing the mind’s descriptive processes. This effect underlies the ancient use of rock formations for opening portals – and it is no accident that many transitions between worlds described in various sources were located in the mountains.
And just as mountain summits pull upward, mountain ranges guide forward, helping to gather scattered currents of consciousness into a single powerful current.
But no less important is the interaction between humans and the spirits of the mountains – Stikhiali of the summits, air elementals, the dwellers of coves and mountain springs, whose breath likewise contributes greatly to the evolution of the mind. In particular, Magi noticed that every mountain with a treeless summit is home to Stikhiali, interaction with which can teach an open mind much. Isolated large boulders also often hold the power of spirits, interaction with which can teach a Magus valuable lessons. The mobility of air masses and their manifestation in Sylphs, taken as a whole, can favor the process of cleansing the Magus’s mind when he is open to the forces of the mountains.
Moreover, the winds and clouds that sweep above and below the peaks have a powerful purifying effect, effectively carrying away from the mind and its channels various contaminants.
Finally, a certain contribution is made by the mountain air, low in oxygen and stimulating brain activity, and by mountain water, carrying the memory of snow and glaciers – ordered crystalline structures.
All these elements undoubtedly contribute to that special state found nowhere but in the mountains.

Very interesting article. I wonder, if a mountain is a sort of Power Place, can this Power be not only enlightening but also, for example, destructive? Here is a concrete example: I am from Kyiv myself and often visit Lysaya Hill (picnics or just walk) but there is one place on this mountain near an abandoned well where people just, as they say, ‘lose their minds’; they start having panic attacks, dizziness, and so on. I experienced this a couple of times, and the feeling is not pleasant.
The effect of Power on a person depends on both the nature of the Power itself and the internal readiness to interact with it. In any Power Place, there will be those who will feel comfortable there and those who will feel bad.
Take me on the 11th campaign)
Having recently visited a mining village in the Donetsk region, I saw that communication with spirits is not something out of the ordinary for the local people. Everyone I talked to on this topic shared a story about how before their birth – in infancy – in their bare childhood a being appeared to their relatives or to the person themselves and promised to protect them. An old woman who makes moonshine has a special brew that is popular for hangovers. And so on and so forth.
The people themselves are very energetic but at the same time simple: just drank vodka – bam – over some trifles they hit each other – bam – they hug again and ride on mopeds (five people on one Java in the middle of the night).
I got the impression that they are all filled with some powerful, but unruly, wild energy. Like the rune Uruz. And I thought this might be because the entire land in this area has been disrupted by mines. Or is it just a characteristic of village folks?
Can I get your comment on my observation?
It is quite possible that, along with the rock, carriers of elemental powers are extracted from the earth’s depths. So your conclusion seems quite plausible.
You have made a very interesting observation; you noticed something that distinguishes this area. It also seems to me that people in the Donbas are fairer and more honest. And which area did you compare it with? I compared it with Kharkiv.
Each hike in the mountains is like a revelation..
__
Silence caught up with me
It screams from nowhere
It is both a curse and a miracle
It is only with it that I am now full
It is the silence of the earth,
Silence of the azure heights,
In it, death is equal to life
And all voices have merged in it
In it, the parts of the world are indivisible..
And the rainbow sparks of the sun,
The glimmering faces of the moon –
The movement of one ether.
Mountains, like Runes, preserve the Light.
With the power of the Universe giving the Answer.
And the mountains howl that they are skinless
They stand stripped
And cry out over the sorrow of the mountains
For those who gaze upon them
The mountains would like to be a space
Under the clear, bell-like sky
To sing in a crystal chorus
And sandals walk on the mountains
To embody their dreams
Ah, no one was found at least one
To cover those hills, oh, and move them aside
Where it hurts less.
