Fixation of Souls – Flight from Gilgul

We once discussed that Magic begins when a person becomes aware of their mortality and begins to seek ways to avoid the inevitable.

Whatever is said about “evolution” and “development,” the only real force that drives a being along the Way of Magic is precisely the desire to escape the cycle of incarnations that tear at the fabric of individuality, and to pass into Eternity — a state intuited by every living being as its destiny, its “promised land.”

Since ancient times, people have invented many ways, if not to avoid returning to gilgul, then at least to postpone it as long as possible.

One of the best-known means of such flight is the custom of mummifying the body, as old as the world itself. Ancient seers noticed that disembodiment cannot occur until the body fully decays. Just as physical life begins with a dense body, leaving that plane is possible only with the end of that body’s physical existence. In other words, any influence on the decomposition of the physical body affects the process of disembodiment: for example, cremation accelerates this process (though painful for the soul), while mummification holds the being (with the mind in the “etheric” body) in the Interworld for a long time. Sometimes mummification was aimed at a mass voluntary “sticking” in the elements, as was customary in Ancient Egypt; sometimes it was performed to keep an outstanding person embodied (this was practiced widely with venerated ancestors, and in modern times — with the “leaders” of states).

The Egyptian cult of the Interworld deserves a separate discussion; for now it is enough to note that the Egyptians built in the Elements an entire “alternative country” of the dead, with a developed structure, politics, and ideology, successfully keeping the Ferryman of souls at bay thanks to the preservation of Supports (in the form of the mummy and the mastaba) in the physical realm. They learned to transfer energy into the Interworld and therefore for a long time avoided becoming ordinary elementals.

However, mummification, while postponing the return to gilgul for hundreds or thousands of years, deprived the being of its wholeness, its threefold nature, and such a diminished existence could not satisfy many.

Therefore, throughout history, other methods were developed for “fixing” the soul in its current incarnation.

The sad experience of “vampires” is well known — those who hoped, by absorbing life force from blood, to prolong their embodied state, analogous to vampire-Elementers who acted in the same way.

The magical world, which expressed the very quintessence of flight from death, of course did not stand aloof from these pursuits. The Magi also tried to remain in the Interworld by various means and to prolong their lives in that realm.

One of the traditionally established methods of delaying reincarnation used by the Magi was to remain in this world by lowering their evolutionary level.

The idea behind this method was that the conversion of awareness back into life is possible; therefore, having accumulated great Personal Power, Magi converted part of it back into life energy, thereby prolonging their incarnation. The most radical form of such prolongation was the transition to a lower-level life wave, in which the accumulated power was enough for many hundreds, or even thousands, of years of life. The Magi prolonged their lives by transferring their minds into animal, plant, or mineral forms, retaining remnants of self-awareness and hoping to find a solution in the time thus gained.

Entire families of Magi still inhabit various Sacred territories in the form of groups of trees, flocks of birds, or stone formations.

It is hard to imagine the state, the fear of death, could drive a Magus to transfer their mind, say, into a stone — into a long dreamless sleep, interrupted only by brief awakenings — and for such a state to last for thousands of years. It seems that instead of buying time, such Magi fell into a trap, becoming victims of their flight from death. However, let us not judge them — they spent their lives struggling, and whether that struggle was a defeat or a victory is theirs to know.

There are known cases where Families of Magi, after existing for a long time, for example, in bird form, nevertheless found a way out — where time disappears and the mind expands to cosmic dimensions.

Which path to choose — to return to gilgul, to linger in the elements, to enter a stone or a tree — is decided by each family and Magus on the threshold of their final battle. And that choice in any case deserves respect — respect for the spirit of the warrior.

  1. Enmerkar, of course, the idea of eternal life is very attractive, but if we consider what is more important, the soul or consciousness, then the soul seems to win. So why free oneself from גלגול? Is the exit “to where time disappears and consciousness expands to the size of the Universe” really the most valuable reward? What happens to the soul in that case?

    • It depends on what you mean by “more important”. And regarding the soul – in the case of exiting גלגול, it is also transferred to the Monad, with the only difference that in this case the Monad and the personality are identified, and the Monad moves from a potential state to an actual one.

  2. Thank you. What does it mean that the Monad and the personality are identified? Is this beneficial for the Monad? If so, why does the entire structure of the world hinder this? Why do magicians stand not just on the sidelines, but as some “broken” mechanism that doesn’t interfere in small numbers but requires cleaning and repair in larger quantities?

    • Exactly – it is beneficial for the Monads. But therein lies the problem that Monads do not have actual existence; what exists are vortex formations like egregores, larvae, and Baphomet, which are not interested in the benefit of the Monads.

      • But we should be interested in the welfare of what you call the Monad – our true Self. The integration of one’s personality and individuality, the actualization of the Monad, is very important as an intermediate goal and is currently the main thing in the Magic of Immortality, as it will allow to solve a number of problems and tasks at once. However, such a being will no longer be a magician, let alone a human, but will be able to be a magician and generally anyone. For all of this is just conventions and everything is a Game.

  3. There’s a complete fog in my head. It seemed to me that Monads and Baphomet, and even all sorts of larvae, despite having different goals (truly opposite), all enter a certain system, according to which the activity of each occupies a necessary important place; they are all parts of a whole that have their own tasks, the fulfillment of which is extremely necessary for the Whole, for its growth and development. What am I not understanding? If I am thinking correctly, then in that case, the activities of Baphomet and Monads are ultimately ‘coordinated’?

    • That’s how it is. Everything is a part of the whole. But the harmony of this whole is not idyllic; it is tense and finds its perfection precisely in struggle.

  4. I understand, I wouldn’t have thought of it myself. But Baphomet doesn’t get everything so easily; as you put it, there is a struggle, and who fights on the side of the Monads? Where can magicians expect help from?

    • Struggle – not in the sense that someone can win or lose. Struggle is the essence of existence itself. And regarding help – it depends on the myth in which the magician lives.

  5. I understood about the struggle, I expressed myself incorrectly; it is indeed so for all that exists, the first breath and you have already begun your struggle 😉
Thank you, I can’t say that I now understand everything completely, but I’ve sorted out some things.

  6. Did I understand correctly that the exit from the gilgul and evolution are different processes, and their goals differ?

  7. The path of the Mage is the direction towards the exit from the gilgul. All the “predators” and “parasites” inside and outside are obstacles that express the resistance of the world order to the acceleration of the Mage’s movement.

  8. The exit from the gilgul is only possible if a support point is created on the physical plane. If, however, the exit from the gilgul occurs into the Pleroma, then what becomes the support point in this case?

      • And what does it mean “if there is no need for the continuation of any chains”? Is this “need” defined by the intertwined relationships in the past and/or the desire lying as potentiality, the prototype of some specific “chain” in the Monad/family of Monads (if such a term, by the way, is at all appropriate)?

        • Yes, the need is defined by connections and energy flows, for example, obtained loans or other types of debts that form strong ties.

  9. Such a mess, and there is no truth, just various Paths, and all are essentially correct…

Ahem. Sorry for the silly question, but what if one of the little birds is simply killed?) Or in this case, is it not that easy to do to someone?

  10. Is such fixation of the soul not essentially an act against personal evolution? After all, sooner or later everyone will have to go through certain lessons. So why delay?
It is strange that many Magicians follow this Path. Of course, everyone has the right to choose and their own vision of the situation. This is normal and does not cause protest.
But when an entire culture (Egyptian), an entire nation perseveres in creating mummies for several millennia, binding themselves in the Between-Worlds, it clearly has significant reasons. Why did this happen and why did so many souls agree to incarnate in Egypt and accept those magical-spiritual consequences that awaited them throughout life and after death of Sah?
Is such a Path (essentially a voluntary refusal of incarnation in brighter worlds over time) so attractive that so many Spirits follow it?
In my view, this only makes sense in one case – when the Personality fears what awaits it there – for certain actions, words, and thoughts, and tries to avoid it at any cost.

  11. I will note only one fact: our Universe is built on the logic of cause and effect, therefore, for any change (phenomenon or process), energy, matter, and a mechanism for their interaction are needed. Even God cannot bypass this rule. Therefore, to be honest, for every absurd idea, there must be a CAUSE that has given you the desired consequences. Such causes do not exist in Nature, but they do in a poorly developed consciousness, and only in it. August 4, 2022.
