The Entangled Time of Agaliarept
Mind as the ultimate reality can be considered from two perspectives. In its innermost foundation it is a pure and impersonal presence, forming an indivisible unity with being as the positive pole of this duality. At the same time, on the surface of this motionless and bottomless ocean the mind presents itself as an ever-mobile stream, constantly flowing from one state to another. It is precisely to describe the movement of this stream that the mind creates the concept of time as a mode of awareness. Yet within the mind itself there is an equal sense of rest and motion, which complement one another. It is clear that a shift toward either of these poles means disharmony and lack of freedom. A mind that sees itself only as the motionless ground deprives itself of the possibility of movement; and by emphasizing movement alone, the mind loses its depth.
Accordingly, the forces that drive the mind into and out of these extremes are of great importance for its functioning. The stream that draws the mind out of a state rooted in the present moment has traditionally been described as the demonic force Agaliarept.
This Demon is mentioned in a number of sources — in the «True Grimoire» and in the «Red Dragon» — as one of the key figures in the destructive hierarchy. Grimoires call him the “general-in-chief” of hell and note his direct subordination to Lucifer.
In evocative practice Agaliarept is accompanied by three (or four) commanders — Gusion, Buer, Botis and (sometimes) Elelogap — who may be regarded as his more particular manifestations.
One might say that Agaliarept is the demon of missed opportunities, drawing energy from the mind’s inability to center itself, from its being scattered across time, its endless wandering between past and future. The “minor” manifestations in fact determine the methods of this entanglement: Gusion sends the mind into the past, Buer lends it hope for the future, Botis robs it of the ability to choose, and Elelogap deprives it of support and firmness. Accordingly, expressions of Agaliarept’s activity in the mind are all forms of leaving the present moment — getting stuck in memories, lingering in daydreams and plans, perpetual vacillation and indecision.
A mind that perceives itself as a stream devoid of stability cannot find its bearings; it needs reference points indicating speed and direction of its movement, and it is precisely for that reason that it “closes” loops, leaning on the past and aiming toward the future. This mode of description, of course, has a phenomenological basis and employs the law of causality; however, when deprived of rootedness in the other pole — the immobility, undifferentiated and unchanging depth — it reduces the existence of the mind to mere sliding across the surface of being.
The grimoire describes Agaliarept as “an adult man with drooping mustaches,” and “adulthood” here indicates a mind that, having manifested the power of this demon, has lost its youthful vigor and liveliness, while the “drooping mustaches” point to a decline in the potency of that mind, which has lost its inner support. The title “general-in-chief,” that is — commander-in-chief — indicates the foundational significance of Agaliarept’s force among the influences in the Psychocosmos.
We have said many times how important it is for the Magus to rely on the present moment in his awareness, without forgetting the past and without losing the direction of development; the Magus understands that his battle takes place here and now, his mind is an ocean, motionless in its depth and stirred near the surface, and that the totality of his existence must include all possibilities. The Magus does not identify himself with the personalities and subpersonalities that flow into one another, nor does he deny them; he observes the play, sinks into his undifferentiated depth and reappears on the surface, avoiding both absolutism and nihilism.

Hello, Enmerkar. I apologize in advance for the off-topic question, but I have a question regarding service spirits. Once I read on your site that Service spirits can degenerate to the level of Demons and thus descend to the very ‘bottom’. Is the reverse process possible? Can a service spirit still gain freedom and even embodiment? Or are they forever locked in such a ‘vicious’ circle, or perhaps they feel quite comfortable, arranging their harvest on planetary scales?
Hello! Within the framework of the accepted Myth in this blog, I call demons any obligatory predators that feed on the energy of their victims to the detriment of the development of their consciousness. In this sense, demonic activity is manifested by those Service Spirits that create the Ascending current, that is – trying to disembody existence (https://en.enmerkar.com/myth/sluzhebnye-duxi-i-ceremonialnaya-magiya). So they do not ‘degrade’ into demons. Regarding the second part of your question – the transition between different waves of life is theoretically possible, and such cases are known (https://en.enmerkar.com/magus-way/volny-zhizni-i-perexody-mezhdu-nimi), for this to happen, the service spirit must find its individuality, or, in the words of the Myth – establish a connection with the Monad. The force that helps to do this is love. But for an obligatory predator, love is usually unnatural and practically impossible.
So, is love a way for all beings to connect with their monad?
very cool. very understandable. too much even
Please tell me, does Agaliarep and his entourage have power over all lines of reality or only over ours? In other words, is it difficult to make choices across all universes?
Like other demonic entities, Agaliarep and his entourage do not rule over the lines of reality themselves but over the consciousness that moves along these lines. This is a fundamental point: they do not control the probabilities themselves but can affect how consciousness interacts with them. Agaliarep creates a time loop—a constant reflection on missed opportunities and fear of the future. He does not prohibit choice but provokes a state in which consciousness cannot make one. Accordingly, his power exists only where consciousness submits to time because his strength is the very illusion of causality. If consciousness is not fixated on time, Agaliarep’s influence weakens. However, his influence is universal, as any reality has a structure of time and causality, and thus there is room for doubts, regrets, and fear of choice. In other words, in any reality where a sense of past and future exists, Agaliarep can exert his influence. In formless worlds, realities without the perception of time (or where consciousness has transcended it), his power loses its meaning. Similarly, if consciousness is fully present in the moment—Agaliarep loses his power. This means that his power is not absolute but acts in almost all familiar realities. If consciousness knows its path in advance (that is, it is in the flow of its own Logos), choices become natural and obvious. In such realities, choice is not felt as a problem—it happens by itself without fixation on the past or future, and consequently, there are no torturous reflections on “how to choose better.” This state can be called “the world of flow,” in which reality is perceived as a smooth current lacking jumps and complex choices. In such universes, Agaliarep is either weakened or not manifested at all.
