Although every sip of Power, every step toward self-discovery inevitably opens new prospects for development, most go unnoticed.
A person is surrounded by Power on all sides, and Power is constantly calling him toward awareness. But the majority of the chances offered by Power slip past the person’s shadowed consciousness.
The main reason for this is one of the most powerful destructors of the human mind — the belief that he still has time.
Even Magi, hunting for Power, often fall into the trap of this distraction. The belief that “there is no need to hurry”, “one must think carefully”, “measure seven times” and so on, under constantly changing conditions of magical combat, often proves fatal.
We have said many times that seizing the passing drop of Orlög can sometimes be difficult, yet that very drop may prove decisive in this incarnation.
In other words, the delicate balance the Magus must maintain is between the need for deliberation in every step and the swiftness of decision. Deliberation should not mean delay, nor should swiftness mean recklessness. Even with minimal Hamingja, recklessness is far more advantageous for the Magus than sluggishness.
The hunter’s gaze — the Magus’s gaze — must not lose its sharpness for a single moment. It must instantly pick out from the world around him the crucial details, signs and flashes of Power.
Above all, the Magus must understand that he never has time; the future may not occur, and a lost chance in the present may be the greatest loss on his Way.
Therefore it is vitally important not to postpone crucial decisions, not to hesitate before decisive actions, understanding that every moment is precisely the battle that must be won. And the question the Magus must constantly ask himself is: “Am I not missing my chance right now?”
