The Journey of the Solar Barque (video lecture)

The lecture concludes its examination of ancient Egyptian theurgical views on the afterlife of consciousness by discussing the journey of the Solar Barque. The lecture also covered what awaits travelers during the journey, but — most importantly — it explained what must be done to ensure a successful journey.

One response to The Journey of the Solar Barque (video lecture)

  1. Enmerkar, I remembered another solar barge, on which the Princess was sailing (also similar to the character of Pushkin, the Swan Princess, whose crescent shines under her braid, and a star burns in her forehead).
How does this bird goddess relate to Egyptian mythology, and what is its relation to the journey of the Solar Barge?

‘But the maiden is not ordinary,
    Daughter, behold, of the moon,
And the sun is her brother.
    That maiden, they say,
    Rides in a red coat,
    In a golden, boys, boat
    And with a silver oar,
    Directs it herself;
    Various songs she sings
    And plays on the gusle…’

‘Here the little horse said to Ivan:
‘Here’s the road to the ocean,
And on it, all year round
    That beauty lives;
    Twice she only descends
    From the ocean and brings
A long day down to earth for us.
    You will see tomorrow yourself.’

‘This is the palace of the Prince-maiden,
    Our future empress, –
The little humpback cries out to him, –
At night here the sun sleeps,
    And at noon
    The moon enters for peace.’
    – What kind of space is this in the Egyptian mythological system?

    The Princess says:
‘Moon is my mother, sun is my brother’

The Princess sends a message through Ivan for her mother the Moon:
    ‘Queen says to him –
    Come, you should pay homage
    In my emerald palace
    And tell my kin:
    Her daughter wishes to know,
    Why she hides
For three nights, for three days
    Her clear visage from me?
    And why my red brother
    Wraps himself in dreary darkness
    And in the misty heights
Doesn’t send a ray to me?'”
    – Is this somehow related to the journey of the solar barge? Why is it mentioned that the Moon does not show her face for three nights and three days, and the sun does not shine?
