The Canopy of Trees
When the beeches prosper,
By charms and prayers,
They draw the oak crowns inward —
There is hope for the trees.
Magi from peoples living near forests and groves have long observed that trees are not only bearers of wisdom, conduits of vital force; they are also — binding threads in the fabric of worlds.
The World Tree is a tree not only figuratively; it is one literally.
In other words, the nature of the connection between worlds, whether the worlds of Principles or the worlds of Manifestation, is the same character we ascribe to the treelike form of life. It is, on the one hand, the inexorable flow of substantial quantities of energy, and on the other, a balance between the ascending and descending aspects of the flow.
According to the Law of Analogies, each tree is a microcosmic analogue of the cosmic Tree.
It is therefore unsurprising that trees possess exceptionally powerful binding energy: their crowns reach into the heavens while their roots sink into the earth, holding the Above and Below in their inseparable yet unmerged state. Trees lift earthly forces to the surface and draw down heavenly forces, expressing in a dense form the great circulation of Power.
In fact, trees are the sentinels of our world, each from its own position, each in its own tone; just as the gods uphold the worlds on Yggdrasil, the trees themselves hold the power of the gods in the earthly vale.
However, twice a year the trees of the temperate zone change their way of life — they sleep in autumn and awaken in spring — and these transitions mark great changes in the fabric of the Veil.
When Veles prepares to take on a winter visage, the trees shed their leaves and “sleep”; at the moment they fall asleep the fabric of worlds thins, marking the passage into the dark half of the year. In Europe, Samhain arrives. In his Bull aspect, Veles begins to rouse the trees, and when they are fully awake the connection between the worlds is renewed, signaling the transition to the light half of the year. When the trees are “awake,” power predominantly descends to the earth; processes of growth prevail over processes of disintegration. When the trees sleep, navi energies rise through their roots, filling the world with potential for development.
It follows that the cycle of “sleep–wake” reflects this circulation of energy — potential and actual — and that its “abstract” and “concrete,” Macrocosmic and microcosmic components operate inseparably.
Tropical forests, which know no sleep, are the foundation that keeps the earthly world in a state of manifestation; their disappearance threatens to accelerate this world’s slide into predatory realms.
The more trees sustain our world, the more stable the flows of power within it, the more harmonious the transitions between actual and potential, between the light and dark facets of reality. The more the human mind stands in fellowship with the wisdom of the trees, the more harmonious the human world becomes, the friendlier Veles is toward humanity, and thus the greater the power, freedom, and love within it.

In my feelings, in early spring (at awakening) there is a maximum gathering of energy, serving as a push for growth. (Once, I stood barefoot in early spring near a birch tree. Unpleasant sensations. Then I had to improve my health). The beginning of summer, the budding – is a very powerful release of Force, lasting until Ivan Kupala. Increased activity. Then a gradual reduction in activity. A state of neutrality. Autumn – a feeling of energy deficiency. From here, the decline of strength and depressive states. Winter – a state of rest, learning, and development.
I actually live in a small town surrounded by forests on three sides. I tried to leave it, but when I returned, I realized what it means to come back home, so to speak, to the roots, like a tree. Since the town itself is very green, and my house is almost next to the forest, I felt all the processes described above by the respected Enmerkar. Since childhood, I ran to the forest when something unpleasant was in life, or, conversely, to share joy with the trees, just to sit under them and listen to their conversations. Up to this point, I couldn’t explain why I considered the forest to be that edge, which could thin out, especially towards winter. I unconsciously knew this, and now I can explain it if asked.
Thank you very much to the author; he has helped me once again.
Good day to all participants of the site and the highly respected Emerkar. Huge thank you for the article, for the effort, for the hope, and for reminding about life and its flow. We were stirred, thanks to which, as well as the trees, these simple lines were born.
When I think of us
Poetry sounds in my ears,
As if on the other side of the earth
I hear a voice from within.
With a crystal raindrop
You awaken me in the night
And with the hot flame of fire,
With all my heart I will embrace you.
Well, my good, dear
I’m glad you’ve come home,
Don’t tell me about matters,
Sit at the table, eat for now.
Take off your dusty cloak from your shoulders,
Pour out the torments of the soul.
Into your eyes I will look
And understand everything and forgive everything.
Lie down, dear, rest
For tomorrow there will be new fights.
And I will go wash your cloak
And fill the bag for reserve.
I’ll throw logs into the stove’s fire,
Don’t be sad, just sleep.
With my hand I’ll touch your hair
And you’ll forget the sadness of all the worlds.
I’ll put my warmth into you,
Love and tenderness, and goodness.
Well, here comes morning, run on,
And eternity awaits us ahead.
Hmm. And then the question arises: that is, did the recent storms that broke trees in Kharkov and beyond affect the Veil?
And I once felt how, with the first frosts at night, strength left the plants (annual herbs) – the air sparkled and trembled…
