The Magus’s Mirror Surface

One of the significant factors leading to a magus’s loss of power is his ineffective engagement with the world, and, above all, with other people.

It is precisely the abundance of connections, voluntary or involuntary intersections of energy, and sometimes outright vampirism that are among the chief depleting influences, leading both to a reduction in energy levels and often to fraying of the mind.

However, social interactions are almost inevitable on the magus’s path, and fleeing them is not always the best solution.

Nevertheless, for a Magus wishing to preserve his high level of power, it is very important to structure interactions so that they do not exhaust them.

To do this, magi developed a rather simple maneuver, called «mirror cloak of the Magus» — the magus does not use his own energy for the interaction, but the person’s attention instead with whom he will converse, as reflected back to them.

In other words, the magus avoids confrontation with the world or with people, does not fight them, but simply withdraws from public attention, presenting a reflected image to others.

People’s depiction of the world is persistent, and the parasite of awareness persistently nudges a person to victimhood among acquaintances and loved ones, with the result that people become jailers to one another, holding each other back from the development of awareness and the accumulation of power. Resisting this pressure is difficult.

At the same time, any interaction — including social interaction — requires focusing one’s attention on the object of interaction — that is, to apply power. Two processes occur: first, reciprocal attention is drawn; second, an image is imposed on the object — how the object appears to the interacting mind engaging with it. If the first action is not, generally speaking, destructive, although it does lead to some expenditure of power — the greater the more attention one directs to reciprocal interaction — the second forces a person to conform to expectations, hopes, and the like placed upon them, causing them to lose freedom and power.

And it is precisely to resist this imposition that the «mirror cloak» is used. The Magus reflects the attention directed at him, returns it, and along with it the image it carried.

As a result — everyone is satisfied: the person receives a response, feels he was not rejected and therefore does not feel aggression; moreover, his own image is returned — and he is pleased by that too, since he believes he sees the magus’s image and marvels at how perceptively it was described. The magus, meanwhile, remains free, expending no power on struggle or on resisting the imposed image.

The Magus reflects away attention directed at him from all those with whom he does not intend to interact. That is why the Magus and the world part ways, and the more skillful the magus is at reflecting, the more socially adaptable he is, and the less pressure he feels from society and its individual members.

The main thing is not to get carried away, and to remove the «mirror cloak» in time when interaction is necessary — above all with those bound to the magus by love. In that case, on the contrary, the deeper the interpenetration of energies, the more effective the mutual complement and amplification.

  1. Good day, En. Does this resemble a game in the myth of a person? For example, a person lives in their myth, for example, family reunions at the New Year table. In reality, there are no interactions, mutual assistance or compassion. I noticed it’s easier to play the theater of fun, ease, and supposedly interest in them, feeling nothing in the process, just nodding to their conclusions about me, than to contradict, prove/explain something. It’s easier to momentarily play in someone else’s myth. Is this it? Or did you mean other techniques? Thank you. Sincerely,

    • Yes, this resembles your ‘game in someone else’s myth’, but it is very important to let as little of this foreign myth into oneself as possible.

  2. It turns out this isn’t the same as reflecting/adjusting according to NLP because to reflect according to NLP you still have to pay attention to the interlocutor. In mirroring, the essence is not to concentrate on them, as any conscious effort leads to the consumption of power, right?

  3. A filigree task. Usually, attention and the projected image a person addresses are used in order to make the other person inspire or force him to accomplish a certain task. (Example: – You are a MAG. – Yes. – Then cast good weather 🙂 ) Capturing attention with a ‘cloak’ and reverse its transmission together with the corresponding person’s representation should exclude any subsequent action that restricts the mage’s freedom. 🙂

  4. Enmerkar, good afternoon. This is a very interesting and sought-after maneuver. How could one learn this technique in more detail?

  5. I don’t think that NLP and magic can and should intersect. NLP is a technique that is good only in cases of masking one’s own insecurity, wishing to achieve quick results, and as one of the first stages of a person’s becoming as a personality. In my opinion, it has no relation to magic or any protective mechanisms. And to the respected Enmerkar, as always, thank you for answering my silent question 🙂 I love and appreciate your work.

  6. Enmerkar, could you elaborate more? For example, a mage needs to pass through a crowd of hostile people. They will nonetheless pay attention to him. How can the ‘magician’s mirror cloak’ be used here? I know that if you do not pay attention to people, they seem not to see you. You pass by, they try to say something to you, but in the end, they remain silent. Is the mirror cloak similar to this? What is its practical essence? Unwanted interaction with people not only drains strength but sometimes even health.)

  7. Interesting, if a mage sufficiently covers themselves with a cloak, will the traces, as I understand, still be perceived by him?

  8. Dear Enmerkar, if communication occurs simultaneously with those you love and with those whose attention you want to evade, how should one act then? Alternately donning and removing the reflective cloak?

    • You shouldn’t think that the “reflective cloak” is something that needs to be literally ‘put on’ and ‘taken off’. It is a way of interacting with the world, with surrounding objects and processes. Accordingly, there is no complexity in the selectivity of this interaction, in ‘reflecting’ some energies and perceiving others.

  9. Good day, Enmerkar. Can you please tell me if I understand correctly that the “mirror cloak” means agreeing with others in everything, but not accepting their words and actions towards you? I’m just not entirely clear on how to reflect the directed attention of unpleasant people towards you. Thank you.

    • Not reacting with a strike to a strike does not mean “agreeing”. The mirror cloak is the ability to allow people to be themselves, without engaging in any form of interaction with them – neither in consensual interaction nor in conflict interaction; it’s the ability to simply reflect their energy, like a pure mirror surface.

      • What about those through whom the poison is injected? It seems like there is nothing to reflect, but they are draining energy. Sometimes, by the time you realize you’ve caught yourself wasting, you forget what caused it.
