The Fulfillment of Desires

Joy — to the one who has few sorrows and little grief, and to the one who has strength and happiness and a good home.

The First Att concludes with the rune of transition — upon reaching full embodiment, Power passes to the next level.

Vunyo

The rune Vunyo (joy, glory) is mythologically associated with the Hall of the Fallen — Valhalla. Even visually, Vunyo represents the banner of that hall.
Vunyo
Valhalla is not a “Paradise” in the usual sense. First, one does not enter it after death but at the moment of dying. Second, entry to Valhalla is not a reward for a “righteous life” but a preparation for the coming battle. The world endures only as long as the balance between Valhalla and Hel tips in Valhalla’s favor. Third, the joy of Valhalla is not the joy of the wise. Paradoxically, the best warriors usually did not die in battle (since that is what makes them the best) but lived to old age… and therefore ended up in Hel. A rare exception was Sigmund, father of Sigurd, whom Odin personally had to kill to prevent him from dying of old age.

Therefore the Power of Vunyo is not deep or magical; it is more “extrasensory” than magical. Such power is often called “milky Power,” as opposed to the “Power of blood,” symbolized by Uruz.

Vunyo is also the rune of confidence, of a steady stride, yet this confidence belongs to those born only once.

Vunyo grants rest and the restoration of Power; this is its great value before the coming leap, yet it is important not to be carried away by rest, not to slip into an overly relaxed state which makes the leap impossible.

As with Raidho, for example, Vunyo is a rune of external events and outward change. This distinguishes it from the “internal” runes Uruz and Fehu. Vunyo even forms a binary pair with Uruz since Uruz is the deep accumulation of power, while Vunyo is external joy.

At the same time, Vunyo, a respite on the way, is necessary before crossing the chasm; without this pause there won’t be enough power to overcome the start of the Second Att (Hagalaz, Isa, Nauthiz).

Graphically, Vunyo can be seen as the sum of Fehu and Ansuz (that is, fiery power and inspiration), and is also linked to Eihwaz (in the sense of the pause before transition).

The magical application of Vunyo, beyond aiding in the restoration of power and the attainment of a goal, includes return to the way and release from unwanted attachments and emotions.

At the same time, clumsy use of Vunyo leads to laxity, idle frivolity, which in turn invites the danger of being surprised. Moreover, it is important to remember that Vunyo signifies victory in a single battle, not victory in war.

  1. In K. Meadows’ book, the rune Wunyo symbolizes love. It encompasses all the beautiful and captivating qualities of Odin/Wotan. One of Odin’s nicknames is Oskir (the executor of wishes). The force behind this rune is none other than the power or realization of the ‘true desire’ or ‘true will.’ It signifies the ability to remain in harmony with the flow of events, the ‘golden mean.’ It is the rune of companionship, shared goals, and collective well-being. It awakens awareness of self-worth and the perception of the divine in all beings and can therefore also be regarded as a rune of self-esteem. This power lies at the root of confidence – not self-conceited pride and boastful self-importance, but a humble recognition of one’s significance among other beings.

  2. With all respect to Kenneth Meadows (since his book on runes was the first that I managed to acquire – still much better than Blum), there are no love runes in Futhark. I myself searched for it for a long time, wondering why there is no direct reference to it. After reading Steblin-Kamensky, I found the answer: “Marriage for love seemed to people of that time simply reckless and foolish. On the contrary, it seemed reasonable to conclude a marriage as they do in the saga of Skarphedin, Helgi, and Grim, the sons of Njall…” And that’s love for you…

  3. Friends… Let’s try to at least for a few moments move away from the idea of the exclusive “gloominess” of the Northern Tradition. People everywhere are the same… And Love, Honor, Inspiration, the Need for Realization do not depend on nationality. I have always felt compassion for those who do not see in the runes the Light, Love, and Divine Power, not limited just to the bloodthirstiness of the Vikings, the harsh darkness of Norway, and the ruthlessness of the Erili. “I do not know of a sickness worse than the torment of spirit” – thus it is written in the Eddas. Thus the ancient Erili thought. Any of the runes can manifest Love and Unity. Any Pagan Tradition is always as natural as possible. The absence of Love (not as a vector, but as a quality) is unnatural))) Valhalla awaits us, but we still have things to do here.

  4. To know something for sure as it is, you have to turn yourself inside out) Understanding is a stream, a continuous change of the level of perception and perhaps of the essence itself, in connection with the expansion or mere transformation of perception. I’ve been working with education for quite a long time and on a neutral, non-magical topic. There it is evident; initially, everyone is scared; there is a sort of universal panic expressed in various ways—from trying to seem important to outright protest. ‘Now they will change me; I want to maintain my worldview, ay-ay.’ I think all this is normal; it’s a protective mechanism because without it consciousness would become trash. However, separately, this unrecognized phenomenon is truly a disaster. I often see people on the verge of quite physical collapses defend their established worldview. And one cannot do without sources, alternate perspectives; we cannot just discard evolution and learn everything anew… In general, I have long been preparing to say that the runes for me don’t come through as stated; although they don’t exclude everything described, it’s just not the only way. I am going through the Circle of Runes for the second time, and the first time and now—I have ‘neighbors in the ward,’ and to some extent, I can track the overall field of symbols and conclusions and dynamics. An overarching field is always present, it turns out, even among unrelated people. Each rune carries a certain set of lessons. Interestingly, I wonder how the approach to mastering and using the rune’s power could be organized differently, not by studying and assimilating what exists in the rune’s field. For me, the only way to possess energy is to know. In a very deep sense, knowing even begins to correspond to the notion of loving. So deeply that I have not deliberately dug into the nature of the energy, yet sometimes it happens by accident. When, apart from the realized energy field in events, things, and interactions, you can see the very energy. But at first, I engage in bringing myself in line with it—I study the lessons present in the rune’s field. Regarding Wunyo—a second time and observing roughly 15 people going through it, I can say that in terms of the experience extracted, it is one of the most complicated runes. They all lie down). From experience, its main symbolic field is finding one’s center, realizing the idea of oneself and that the idea at least exists, contacting with this idea. Symbolically, this expresses itself through various birds, chiefly fiery ones—many have these images emerge while going through this rune. All of this is reflected in reality as a rule—all kinds of birds at the window, randomly given canaries, some more commotion with birds that many have during their passage. The process— it can resemble a review and quite harshly confront us with the inconsistencies of our nature within ourselves. Thus, they mostly lie down. Questions arise that seem to indicate they are absent, and many of them stem from childhood, from those first moments when we refused to be ourselves. In symbolic terms, this may appear as death, and this time we had a reflection of the Egyptians’ representations, for instance, regarding the afterlife, some area called Amenti. In any case, whatever processes occur under the rune—it is a search for one’s ‘sun.’ And the result is a greater alignment with oneself. I won’t call it the milky force or the joy of the single-born—by experience, it may also turn out to be an idea about oneself, obtained purely through harshness (those familiar with being in the rune’s flow will understand)). To put it briefly and humanly, I would say about the rune, quoting a random line from the internet: ‘Even if you have to go through hell, do so without pondering’. The matter truly is worth it. The only thing that the outcome depends on is the traveler, too—how ready they are to allow this vector through themselves, this will determine the scale of the realization.

    • The Sphere is a collection of populated and empty worlds and universes, having centers of power and Guardians.
Unfortunately, I am not authorized to give more detailed information.

      • Thank you for the information and the attitude towards another person’s worldview), this is quite enough. If I wish to find out what it is, I can do so in that direction. I will know where to look and what question to ask the world. For now, I don’t need it; there is no need (to find out untimely is no different from not knowing at all in my opinion). When it is needed, I will see everything. And maybe it will turn out to be the Sphere with Guardians or something else.

  5. Hello! I have long been pondering this question. In the description of runes, many possible applications are given, and if I were to make a list, I could cut runes for each day for each type of activity. I understand that it used to be like this and magic was a commonplace, but now, such intensity is hardly rational.

    • Hello.
Of course, with the help of Runes, one can describe, modulate, or even completely restructure almost any process, regardless of the degree of their ‘magic.’
