The development of awareness on both the macro- and microcosmic scales occurs by the differentiation of individual elements from the World Unity and their transition from a potential state into actuality.
At the same time, the actualizing activity — that is, the mind — exists as a flow of directed movement, the vector field of its development.
Put differently, development is directed, since each step follows from the previous one and determines the next.
Magic calls this vector-forming force, a manifestation of the logos that creates the directionality of the movement of the mind, a spirit.
In other words, spirit is the Power’s ability to form directed flows.
From the foundation of all manifestation, the Great Spirit, to the infinitesimal guiding influence of any system-forming factor, every system possesses the capacity for purposeful development precisely because of the presence of spirit within it.
For example, by ‘human spirit,’ Magic means the tendency, inherent both to humanity as a whole and to the individual, to develop consciousness in certain ways in a particular direction; likewise, the spirit of Magic is that way of developing consciousness that is characteristic of the Magi.
An individual being’s spirit is the functional capacity of its Monad to develop in a certain direction.
It is clear that, unlike the soul, which has a substantial nature, spirit has a functional nature; it is elusive and non-substantial.
Thus, when a Magus says, “my spirit,” he does not mean some “subtle essence”; he means his ability or inclination to create directed flows of a certain kind.
At the same time, the word “spirit” is also used to denote the manifestation of certain beings in our world. The use of that very term shows that in such cases we are not dealing with the beings themselves (that is, not with the vessels of awareness), but only with their characteristic manifestations in the field of our perception. In other words, when a Magus says he “summoned a spirit,” he should understand that he was interacting not with the being itself in its own fullness, but only with its influence — that is, the directional effect — on the field of the Magus’s consciousness.
The same goes for the “Great Spirit,” by which Magic names the cosmos’ striving to develop and to be filled with consciousness.
Clearly, from this point of view the only complete way of knowing any being or process is entry into its spirit — awareness of its manner of existence, its internal relations and inner directions which are characteristic of the given system and, in fact, constitute its vector field. One could say that to understand a system’s spirit is to understand the particularities of its inner life.
This is precisely why Magic requires understanding of the spirit of those systems, objects, phenomena and beings with which the Magus interacts — for only by understanding a system’s spirit can the Magus predict how that system will influence him and his Way.
How to understand the spirit if it is elusive? I feel that there is an answer, but it has not yet formulated itself in words for me.
To understand the spirit of systems, objects, phenomena, and entities, it is possible through connecting oneself to the studied system. When the studied system informs the researcher that it is time either to disconnect or to stay under certain conditions, it will be a sign that the spirit is understood.
As far as I understand, one can know the spirit by observing its manifestations – the flow of power in the system. By understanding the properties inherent to it, we can judge its spirit. At the same time, it does not have a quantitative expression. It cannot be sold or lost. When the spirit is lost, the system must radically change its properties, that is, effectively become another system. Therefore, it is elusive. If my conclusions are correct, can we say that during the reconstruction of the worldview, the magician acquires a different spirit, a different vector of development?
A magician should not ‘restructure’ their world; they should harmonize it precisely to better correspond to their spirit.
The concept of Spirit is interpreted differently by everyone, using their own mind, which loves to label everything and everyone. Magic is one of the ancient philosophies with its established embodied reason, which also develops along with the development of the soul. According to many definitions of this embodied reason, the spirit is Everything, and it does not have individuality separate from the individual. If a ‘magician’ still works from themselves, then they are not a magician, but simply a witch, sorcerer, and other derivatives. A true Magician only studies the world they have created and improves it from within, uniting themselves with the Spirit.

The level of awareness can be perceived. Sometimes certain people look almost illuminated. This means they have a strong spirit.. 😉 But in society, such people are rare. Most are a gray mass, gnawed by predators. And sometimes this ‘illumination’ does not come from within the person. In that case, warriors say that the Great Spirit points to this person. At the same time, the personal awareness of this ‘illuminated’ person can be quite tiny. Similarly, the sign of the Spirit can be any place, any object, any event. When we encounter such signs, we touch the Great Spirit, and at that moment our level of awareness increases.

You could say that. Although there are nuances. There are warriors who have a strong spirit but do not have the spearhead of the spirit, having lost it, for example, due to children. Conversely, there can be people who are born with a bright star but have a weak spirit. Often, the fate of such people unfolds in a rather dramatic way.
