Sips of Light
The Magus goes into darkness only to find the Light.
The central concept of Magic is the idea that a person in their current state is cut off from the Light, from Power, and from awareness.
Moreover, for him direct access to the Light is practically closed.
Magic is a set of methods intended to bring the individual mind into contact with the universal consciousness — that is, with the Light.
Magic opens the mind’s vessel to receive the Light, and then — step by step, Ritual by Ritual — accustoms the mind to this new mode of being — existence in the Light.
At first the Light reveals itself only as isolated glimpses, illuminations. Then these glimpses become increasingly frequent and regular, and finally the mind moves into the state in which it ought by its very nature to abide — the state of the flow of Light.
Only when the Light, the Power, begins to flow through individual being as a steady current does the being return to its primordial condition — the state of the self-aware mode of the Absolute, a unit of universal self-knowledge.
At the same time, Magic clearly understands that the transition from darkness to light must be gradual, since the Light can be quite traumatic if contact with it is unmediated.
In fact, the whole system of Magic (in whatever particular School it is presented) is a science of interacting with the Light, first establishing contact with it and then, step by step, bit by bit, introducing the Light into the vessel being prepared simultaneously.
It is very important that the opening to the Light and the preparation of the Vessel proceed in parallel and in strict coordination; only then will the interaction between them be most effective and creative.
