The World Tree in Man
This unified yet divided picture of the world has, in addition to its apparent development, another important consequence: the notion of cosmic polarity. In fact, this polarity is evident everywhere: in the idea of the Marriage of Heaven and Earth (by whatever names they are worshipped), in the idea of the dual nature of man (material and immaterial). This First Separation makes man — an analogue of the macrocosm rooted like the World Tree in both higher and lower worlds, in the depths of Heaven and in the depths of Earth. In other words, the “coarse” and “subtle” components of humans are not only opposed but also complement and interpenetrate each other (“the Principle of Semargl”).
As a child of Heaven and Earth, man unites their creative and generative principles, and understanding this allows one to take an important step toward grasping the essence of power.
In fact, we will see later that things are not so simple, and just as Yggdrasil has a third root, so humans have a third source… But more on that later.
